I tried very hard to get out at least one more story for Christmas, but I came down with strep. 🥺 I am, however, at least putting it out by New Year's Eve.

And then I'm closing the Library for awhile. At least until spring or the new season. I think it's time. I still have the muse for my Kostas family, but not for anything else.

Please don't give up on this place that grew exponentially over the last year. It's just very hard for content creators in this fandom. My inbox is ALWAYS open here and at Miss Kitty's Magical Portal.

This Kiss (A Violet Duval Drabble)

A/N: Violet lived an entire life before Nathan. Just don't tell Nathan that.

When Violet was 12, she had her first kiss. Well technically? In the way 12 years olds in 1993 might kiss. Egged on by a bunch of their friends after a junior high dance. Including her sister Fern, an 8th grade girl who showed her little sister how to flirt with the new boy in a leather jacket. Violet’s brown hair crimped to the heavens in a side pony-tail. He was 13 and had an earring. A 7th grader with his ear pierced

Anyways, they stood behind a tree with a dozen others gawking at Violet and the boy as their faces smashed together in a rush. Her temple collided with a branch and leaves. His earring got caught in her crimped hair in the side ponytail. It wasn't exactly pleasant, but it didn't swear the pubescent Violet off kissing forever either. Maybe a few more years

His name was Ryan Conor. He came out to her a few years later when they were sophomores. Violet's first Irishman.

When Violet was 15 or 16 it was normal for sure and her friends to hang around an ice skating rink on Friday nights. Her eldest sister, Rose, was dating a hockey player at the time. So she would drop Violet off for public skate while her boyfriend practiced a few rinks down.

Violet wasn't exceptionally beautiful at any point in her life. She often heard “mousey” or “girl next door” or “cute.” She settled for them all as she tried to make herself look older. Glossy lips and glitter eye shadow. Hair twisted up in small butterfly clips with streaks of blue and red. She wore chokers and platform Mary Janes. It was a late 90s way of being “sexy” when you were still just a girl trapped between two worlds.

Still, it must have worked that night. Violet’s senses are triggered every time she hears “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind. How she was sitting on a bench by the lockers trying to yank her ice skate off. Rose’s boyfriend and his best friend came to find her. Danny’s (the boyfriend) friend took Violet’s foot and yanked. Violet had giggled trying to catch herself from following. There was some flirty banter between her and the friend.

Then she remembers lacing up her boots. Danny had left, rolling his eyes over her and the friend taking their time. The friend helped her to her feet with both hands. Then those hands were on her face. One on the back of her head, the other around her shoulders. He crushed her against his chest; Violet’s arms hung loosely at her sides. She remembers uttering the word “Ohhh” before his mouth collided with hers.

His tongue was warm but felt like a giant wad of chewed bubble gum. Then there was something hard, like she chipped a tooth and was going to swallow it. (Violet would learn later he had a tongue ring.) She tried to reciprocate. To make herself feel cooler by overpowering his tongue with hers. He laughed and broke away, brushed stray hair out of her eyes and pinned it up under a butterfly. All Violet could hear was her drumming heart and a sister who sounded like she was yelling underwater.

His name was Brian Kelly. He thought Violet was 19 even though she had just turned 16. He was 22, and he was her second Irishman.

These days Violet was 38. Occasionally she threw some butterflies in her hair or crimped it just for fun. Maybe a tee shirt under a spaghetti strap dress too. Her boyfriend always teased her. Her boyfriend with the emo star tattoos of all the things. But his deviousness and obscene humor coupled with those eyes and those lips and that neck made her forget anyone else.

His name was Nathan Young. He was immortal and could bend reality. And he was the last Irishman Violet Duval would ever want to kiss.
