In der Oper steht es auch nicht zum Besten. Gemetzel, Blutrausch, Rachegelüste allenthalben, und der Countdown läuft unerbittlich. Es ist die 30. Aufführung einer neunzehn Jahre alten Inszenierung, so daß ich wohlmeinend annehme, daß einiger dererer subtileren schauspielerischen Ansätze in Vergessenheit geraten sind, während der Tobi quengelt: "Schade, dabei hätte das solches Potential gehabt." Elektra (mitte) singt auch nicht besonders schön, man weiß nicht, ob das wegen der Rachegelüste ist, die sie plagen, oder ob sie es nicht besser kann.

The big-voiced Spinto Soprano Violeta Urmana singing Amelia's incredible scene 'Ecco L'orrido campo... Ma dall'arido stelo divulsa' from Verdi's opera Un ballo in maschera.

A voice inherently made for Verdi. Deliciously rich, full, voluptuous sound in the middle of the voice, complete with the edgy, iced vibrato in the upper register that is ideal and inflames this kind of repertoire, amongst the most gruelling and vocally demanding of all of Verdi's works. 

The depth and resonance is impressive throughout, as well as the subtlety which is needed to sing the cavatina-esque section with a sense of lyricism that can portray the haunting pathos of the character. The low notes are also beautifully placed, deep and dark, appropriately coloured and sitting comfortably within her range without any tonal discolouration.

A marvellous performance. It's so rare to hear Verdi's colossal roles sang with the dramatic potency needed.
