Ooooh you should make a playlist for post exit wounds vibes!
In our bedroom after the war by Stars
Okay I normally think of this as a post-CoE song, but it works really well here too… the immediate aftermath and the jarring domesticity, etc.
Dead Hearts by Stars
Please, please tell me what they looked like Did they seem afraid of you? They were kids that I once knew They were kids that I once knew
The team trying to cope with the loss of Tosh and Owen (this also feels like Gwen’s mindset in Lost Souls and In The Shadows, where she’s desperately trying to understand!)
If I’m to die by Keaton Henson
Oh I’m scared that you’ll know what to do If I’m to die before you
This is Gwen and Ianto again, thinking about the reality that it’s going to be them next. Especially thinking about the energy Ianto has in the Dead Line and Submission about what his death will mean to Jack.
Galapagos (for the fish) by Ceschi
I want you back, breathing and selfish as ever
This one is mostly on here for vibes and imagery rather than specifically applicable lyrics, but it is a raw and emotionally bruising song about grief (content warning for suicide (mentioned)+body horror in the lyrics) for a person you have messy complicated feelings about, that always makes me cry. Maybe it could be Jack’s horribly conflicted grief for Gray, and him trying to cope with the fact that he chose to make the call that Gray was beyond saving.
Heal Over by KT Tunstall
Another one that’s largely here because I titled a fic from it… but this one is to me about the team gradually learning to cope and learning to lean on one another to survive in the aftermath.
