When the Person across from you in orchestra is really good looking
Violin to Viola.
For a third world country, I say I am lucky enough to get to play the violin. Being a musician is quite a cost - the instrument, and its maintenance. I come from a middle-class family and without my mentor I could not have learned pressing fingers on the violin. Violins are for the rich people (that's my perception). Luckily, a scholarship was given to me but I have to pay back in terms of teaching violin too after I had learned it. So now I teach kids and even mature ones but I'm not a professional teacher. I'm just 17. I teach well, I think (haha!) I have reached Suzuki Book 6. And up until now, I can't advance to Book 7. Just one fucking piece and I am off to Book 7. I lost my time for self- improvement because I am busy taking care of my students. So I think of enrolling violin lessons at St. Scholastica's College (Manila, Ph). I told my mentor if she could arrange me to be a scholar there and then I have to repay it by teaching Rondalla instruments (I did not mention that "banduria" was my first instrument, it helped me a lot in playing violin). I cannot afford to study violin there. I need a scholarship. Yes, I got the scholarship. But now she suggests that I take up Viola lessons. WTF? I never got the will to study it. Basically, its size is bigger than the violin; the strings are different and it's on a low tone. I am just thinking.. how about my advancement in violin? Is it enough? Is my level that great? I don't think so. I still want to improve even more. But my friend who also plays the violin said that after I have learned the viola, it's so easy to play on the violin. It's an advantage, he told me. Hmmm, okay.
Viola. Viola. Viola. I am ready =)
