#longtones #violinpractice When I encounter extremely long notes in #violinsolo I practice playing the note longer than it needs to be. The long note then feels easy when played at the intended value. Here’s a famous passage from #violinconcerto in #minor (2nd mvt) by #jsbach Two videos: 1) measure 17 whole note practiced at twice its value (16 eighth note clicks on the metronome) with bow left over for the tie in the next measure. ~swipe left~ 2) Performance version. Whole note is easy to play and expressive. I enjoy playing this note and do not merely “cope” with its extreme length.
