Vipera Bionda, or the Blonde Serpent in English was a highly dangerous actress and socialite in 1920s Hollywood who waged a one-woman war against the Mafia, studio bosses, fascists, criminals and just about any man who crossed her. She was the creation of Italian erotic artist Emmanuele Taggliatelle and her title ran for over eighty issues between the late 1960s and early 1990s. Her real name was Cat Sparrow and in her youth worked as a prostitute. It was this sense of burning injustice that drove Cat to adopt her merciless Vipera persona and she happily indulged in murder, torture and frequent bondage in order to take the people that she regarded as the bad guys, down. This cover is typical of Cat’s modus operandi. A mafiosi has been tied hand and foot, and weighted down with concrete, by the Vipera and she is preparing to tip the terrified gangster over the side of his own yacht in revenge for some unknown transgression.

In line with the “erotic” nature of this comic, Cat’s 1925 swimsuit is suffering a wardrobe malfunction as she grapples to send her struggling prisoner to a watery grave. For more on Vipera Bionda, please see my Tumblr blog Female Domination in Comics under the moniker comicsart3.
