Young Viper and Asami - You Get Wet When It Rains
Cobalt eyes that almost matched the downpour followed the young woman emerging from the double doors. Viper took a sharp breath. The raven haired siren was captivating. He could see she was still young but it was no doubt she’d be turning all kinds of heads in a few years. He saw her looking back into the party, the same one he was supposed to be spying on. Her red lips frowned slightly and she stepped out of the safety of the canopy and into the rain.
He should have ignored her. After all what did one teenage girl running away matter to him? But it was hard to ignore the bouncing onyx locks and the blood red fabric clinging to her legs as she ran through the puddles. Her movements were graceful and her face carefree.
“Hey!” Viper called out. When she turned around, looking at him curiously, he was unsure of what to say. “Um…you’re getting wet.”
Asami rolled her eyes, “It’s hard not to when it’s raining.” She waited for Viper to continue. When it was obvious he wouldn’t, Asami gave him a little wave before running off.
He watched her go, admiring not her beauty but her freedom. She didn’t care about the priceless jewels adorning her neck and wrists or the imported silk now ruined by his element. She ran into the ruin freely, uncaring.
Viper wondered what it would be like to not care like the younger girl. There was a time when he hadn’t and it landed him on the streets. He didn’t like the feeling of being cold and hungry. He let his gaze linger until he couldn’t see her anymore.
Years later, Viper would be caught in the rain again with Asami. This time it was she who said, “You’re getting wet.”
Wrapping a protective arm around her and using his free hand to bend the water away, Viper whispered over her lips, “It’s hard not to when it’s raining.”
He didn’t know if she remembered him or being free. If he was honest with himself, Viper would admit it was sad to see Asami caged in by the life they led. He didn’t have much to linger on the sentiment when her warm lips captured his, reminding him that a cage wasn’t so bad if they were sharing it.
