kengan ashura oc? no. kengan au for my main oc? absolutely. thoughts etc under the cut
a lot of idk…translations need to be made since virenina is from a whole different world than ours. in her home world of tei ura, she’s 7’5 and 350 pounds – spectacularly tall in a social class where the average woman is around 6’10-6’8. scaling her down to a human au, nina is 6’4 and 215 pounds.
on tei ura, her fighting style is based on kicks, knees and elbows, and spear-hand strikes. her style is designed to take advantage of several things about her body, chiefly her incredibly long + strong legs, her unnaturally sharp and durable nails, and her natural agility and raw strength.
for her kengan au, rather than an existing martial arts style, i like the idea of nina having traveled the world to learn arts and techniques that she then refines and synthesizes into her own martial art that she considers perfectly tailored to her body. she would probably call it nameless, almost like an unintentional (on her part. not mine) counterpart to agito’s formless. i do think there are parallels that could be drawn between the two but papa’s tired. something something agito adapts himself to his opponents while nina adapts herself to herself
nina can outright fly in her canon verse, so it’d be fun if that translated to her kengan counterpart being able to pull off insane jumps (if you’ve ever seen a kalaripayattu practitioner straight up jump over their opponent’s attack you know what i mean)
her deadliest weapon is her kicks, but her spear hand strikes are…honestly a lot like kuroki’s devil lance. tbh. one of her favorite ways to toy with an opponent is to bait them into watching out for one of those only to fucking Get them with the other
with her kicks, any kick she throws has three potential levels: rimfire, rifle, or full cannon. rimfire is the fastest, sacrificing the full power of nina’s hips and thighs for greater speed, almost more of a distancing move than a true strike; i imagine she can throw these out like other fighters throw out jabs. rifle is right in the middle, some speed sacrificed for more power and vice versa. full cannon is, of course, the strongest, with the drawback that it’s also the most telegraphed and needs the most windup. but if nina gets you into a spot where she can unleash one of those on you…Pray.
also she named each of those levels after how it feels to get hit by one 🥴
her biggest weakness as a fighter is her lack of ground game. she’s a striker through and through, and though she knows a few basic throws and holds, a big and skilled enough grappler managing to get her to the ground would put her in serious trouble.
she LOVES fighting. one of those people who does it for sheer love of the game. doesn’t mind losing (as long as it happens honestly + there isn’t anything too momentous at stake) and actually kind of gets excited when it happens, because it means there’s a new limit for her to fight to surpass, and virenina loves challenges like a pit bull loves a new chew toy. if she lost to, say, agito or kaolan, her immediate response would be ‘FIGHT ME AGAIN,’ on top of already being massively excited just to fight them in the first place.
we all see the sexism in kengan i’m not gonna pretend it isn’t there. in this verse, nina’s love of shredding people’s gendered expectations to ribbons would be a huge fuel source for the fire that fuels her. virenina’s extreme confidence and showboating attitude is a defense mechanism for very different things in her canon verse, but it translates nicely to a defense mechanism against a setting that often isn’t good to women for the kengan au.
characters nina would like/get along with: sekibayashi, saw paing, agito, karla, adam, cosmo, sayaka, togawa yoshiko
characters nina would dislike or outright hate: AKOYA, raian, lihito, hatsumi sen
knowing how the source material is, nina would probably get comments about being flat-chested multiple times. her response to comments like these is generally to laugh in that person’s face before saying something about either A) being glad that her boobs don’t get in the way when she fights or B) ‘WHO NEEDS TITS WITH LEGS LIKE THESE?!’
