As confirmed by Yes Official, Steve Howe’s younger son, Virgil Howe, has unexpectedly passed away. Details have not been disclosed, but the remaining Yestival shows have been canceled.

Recently, it had been announced that Steve and Virgil would be working on releasing an album together.

Steve Howe and family request their privacy be respected in this difficult time.

Song Review: Virgil & Steve Howe - “Nexus”

Nexus was supposed to be a celebration of a father and a son making music together.

But Little Barrie drummer Virgil Howe died unexpectedly in September, leaving his dad, Yes guitarist Steve Howe, to release the album as a posthumous tribute.

Out Nov. 17, the LP is preceded by the title track, a song that was completed before Virgil’s death but nevertheless sounds like a wordless eulogy. The contemplative, nearly five-minute instrumental features swirls of double-tracked guitars, synths, piano and percussion that pops up intermittently as the song ebbs and flows from brooding near silence to arcing, classically themed moments, and winds up somewhere between progressive rock and fusion jazz with more than a hint of the Yessound of old.

“The structure of this track demonstrates Virgil’s melodic and rhythmic approach, which came about by him learning to play and make music by ear, utilizing his keyboards and drums to invent his own writing style,” Steve Howe told Prog.
