Viridian's Backstory! 📚☕📚☕📚☕📚
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Childhood.
Long ago, a girl was born to a noble family in Medieval Germany.. She was born with white hair, and eyes that would randomly change color. She was given the name Viridian. Being born with white hair usually meant one was highly gifted with magic, while also holding a grand destiny. White symbolizes a blank canvas, a canvas where there is infinite potential to paint a beautiful picture. Only a handful of white haired individuals are born in each era, and even fewer realize their potential. The changing of eye color, had never been seen before in any era.. She was very intelligent, and wise beyond her years as a child.
Growing up, she spent most of her time in libraries, loving to read for as long as she's been able to. Mostly reading encyclopedias, philosophy, and books about magic. Absorbing all of the knowledge she could. She had always wanted to be a librarian, to hold knowledge and to give it to others, she knew this from an early age. She was inspired by the kind old librarian that always greeted and assisted her, and could easily see herself as one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adolescence.
When she had reached adolescence, a book appeared in her room, neatly placed on her bed. Upon inspecting it and opening the book, there is only one page.. How odd.
It reads: "Your destiny is beginning to take hold, in a few weeks your magical potential will begin to unfold. You must cultivate this ability, for your destiny demands it. You will be sent another book just like this one, when the conditions are met." The book disappears once she had finished reading it. She is distressed by the message.. However, the message feels aligned with her. She feels.. A surge of energy. "I fear for what this book means by destiny, yet I feel this is right for me.."
Over the next few weeks, she does her usual routine of reading at the library. She is at the top of a ladder, trying to reach for a book, when suddenly.. She loses her footing, and falls.
Screaming and in a panic, she closes her eyes. As she's about to hit the ground, she feels that she isn't falling anymore? She opens her eyes, to find that she is floating!
"What?! How- How am I floating-" Suddenly remembering the mysterious book. "Is this that magical potential the strange book was talking about..? Gods- this feels weird, I don't know what to think. How do I- Disable this?" Following her inner wisdom, she figures out how to disable the levitation. Taking a deep breath and relaxing with the intention to stop floating, eventually taking effect. Breathing a sigh of relief, she thinks. "I need to learn more about this, I remember the feeling.. I should be able to replicate it." Eventually heading home.
A few weeks pass, during these few weeks she has figured out how to activate and deactivate her levitation at will. There is also a slight mint colored aura which emits around her when activating her magic. She has read about magic since she was a girl, magic was a normal part of life. Yet individuals who could utilize it were rare. She wonders what other magical abilities she may be capable of.
When immediately another mysterious book appears beside her. She opens it, it reads: "You have grasped your magic, good. When you are ready to realize the next part of your destiny, turn to the next page."
After a few hours of thinking it over, she gathers the courage to turn to the next page. Instantly, she feels herself being pulled into the book.. Finding herself in a new world.
It appears to be a library, with a mix of books varying from old and new, it feels as if every bit of knowledge is kept here. There is also orange colored mystical fog everywhere, with a river of that same fog flowing on the ceiling.
"Where- Where am I? Who brought me here- WHAT brought me here?! Please, someone answer me!"
Eventually, a presence materializes behind her. She feels the presence, is startled, and then turns around, it appears to be a man in a dark cloak, looking away from her. He is silent..
"Tell me, who are you? And what do you want with me? Why did you bring me here?" She says, worriedly.
"I am Leon Weise, the keeper of this library. I have chosen you, Viridian, to be my student. To eventually take on the responsibility as keeper of this library, you have proven yourself worthy of studying under me. Your passion for knowledge and quick grasping of magic makes you a perfect candidate."
"Keeper of this library.. What do you mean by keeper, like a librarian?
"Sort of.. It is much more than that, the keeper of this library also serves as the God of Knowledge and Wisdom. You will be immortal, living forever. You may call yourself the librarian though."
Shocked by this revelation, she mumbles. "I.. I don't know what to think of all this- I'm sorry.. This is all so sudden, how could I be a god? Where do I even begin what do I need to do? I just- I need time."
"I understand, I will give you several years to think this over. When you are ready to speak with me again, focus on what you remember of this library. That will act as your signal to me. For now, goodbye."
She is warped back to her room. Completely overwhelmed and shocked by what had just occurred.
"I don't.. I don't know what to do- A God? Me? I can't think of this right now I need to get some rest.." Eventually, she goes to bed, in an attempt to forget what had just happened.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adulthood.
Many years pass. She has now reached adulthood, having figured out more about her magic. Able to fly, teleport, use telekinesis, and heal. She met a kind man at the library one day, he caught her practicing levitation on some books. His name was Albert Paige, they spent a lot of time reading and learning together. In time they fell in love and got married, later they had two daughters together, Viridia and Carla. Interestingly enough, Viridia inherited her mother's white hair, and forever altering eye color. She displayed similar talents to her mother, however, she had a more expressive and confident personality. As opposed to her mothers more shy and reserved one.
In time, Viridian felt she was ready to confront the cloaked man Leon once again. She relaxes, focusing on that library she saw long ago. Suddenly, she is warped there.
"I see that you have returned Viridian.. Tell me, what did you decide?"
She ponders for a moment, confident in her answer. "I will study under you, however I have one condition."
"Oh? And what might that be?"
"Let me live a full lifetime with my family, once I know my children are fine without me. I will be your pupil."
"Fine then, I accept your condition Viridian. Come back here when you feel you are ready."
"Thank you.." She is teleported back to her home.
Several decades pass, she had lived a normal life with her family, birthdays, holidays, all of the fun family activities, with her children eventually reaching adulthood. Viridia had taken an interest in being a school teacher, while Carla took an interest in being a seamstress. Unfortunately, during this time her husband passed peacefully in his sleep, deeply grieving him, and cherishing the life they had together. Once her children reached their 40s, seeing that they had their own lives. She decided it was time to study under Leon, the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, and Keeper of The Library.
An unintentional side effect of her magic, was that her aging was greatly decelerated, despite being 60, she appeared to be around 25. Knowing this, she knew she would outlive her family, this deeply saddened her.. However, she knew that her destiny as Keeper of The Library needed to be realized.
She focuses, once again warping to the library. "Alright Leon, I am ready to begin studying under you."
"Splendid, just remember.. You can visit Viridia and Carla whenever you wish to. My only advice is, mentally prepare yourself to outlive them.. I had to do the same with my family..." He says, with a sadness in his tone.
"I understand, let's begin then." She says with determination.
More years pass, growing in magic and knowledge, she is more and more prepared to inherit the role with each year. During this time, Carla had unfortunately passed from natural causes, this hit Viridian like nothing had ever before, she had lost her baby. Her child.. She takes a break from studying for a while to bereave her daughter. She knew she would eventually have to bury her children, yet no amount of mental preparation could prepare her for such a devastating loss.
Yet, something strange is happening.. Viridia hasn't aged at all- She still appears to be in her 20s despite being around 50. This makes Viridian feel immense joy.
"Maybe.. I'll be able to have one of my babies with me. I had no idea she inherited my magical potential as well, she never showed it. She had the white hair and ever-changing eye color, yet.. I never made the connection- Why didn't she tell me?" She ponders this for some time. Eventually speaking with Viridia about it.
"Viridia dear, why did you never tell me about your magic? Why would you hide it if you knew I would be able to guide you with it?"
"It's because people kept mistaking me for you, kept seeing me as a clone of you. Not as my own person but as a reflection of my mother. I wanted my own life, one where I didn't need magic, one where I could live a normal life."
"Dear- You are your own person.. You are my wonderful daughter yes, but you are your own person."
"It's not like it matters anyway, you cared more about your "Destiny" or whatever more than me, Carla, or father.." She says in a somber tone..
She is sobbing. "That's not true- How could you think such a thing!?"
"Whatever mother, as I said. It doesn't matter anymore, just leave me and go do your Keeper of The Library duties or whatever."
"I.. Please, pl eas e Viridia p lea se we can ma ke up we ca n ke ep talki ng ab out th is-"
Viridia turns away from her, slowly walking away, and suddenly vanishing. Viridian is devastated, she had lost another child.. Uncontrollably sobbing for hours and hours...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grief and Inheriting The Library.
There is a long period of time where she doesn't do any studying. The built up grief and pain from losing her husband, Carla, and now her only living family, Viridia. Had put her into a deep depression.
As time passes, the pain gets easier to live with. However, she will never truly recover from her grief.
One day, she is ready to take on the mantle as Keeper of The Library. Leon being very proud of her, they had grown close over the decades they spent together. He always comforted her during her saddest and darkest moments, someone she could confide in. The ritual to pass down the role to her had begun...
"Don't worry Viri.. I will continue to live on in the library, when the library is passed down to the successor, the previous keeper is absorbed into the library. Which allows them to keep existing. You may not always be able to access me, however.. I will always be with you." He smiles, doing everything he can to reassure her.
"I... Leon I- I don- I-" She is sobbing, she doesn't want to lose another person she loves. She doesn't think her heart can take more loss, she can take it though. She is much stronger than she knows...
"It's okay Viri.. I have faith in you, I know you are ready-"
She instantly hugs him.
"Tha nk yo u.. Th ank y ou f or every thi ng yo u've tau ght m e Leon.. I wi ll alwa ys do wha t I ca n to ho nor yo u.."
He chuckles and smiles while still hugging her. "You have already more than honored me Viri.. I am so proud of you, always know.. I enjoyed every second of our time together, goodbye now." Patting her on the head.
Instantly, he turns into a magical orange mist, and is absorbed into the library... The library then changes color, with every bit of orange becoming mint.
Viridian is crying even harder. She had lost her mentor in a way, the man who taught her everything he knew, and was there for her at her lowest.
Now, being the Goddess of Knowledge and Wisdom, Keeper of The Library, she wonders what is next for her...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Godhood.
Centuries pass, she had been to many worlds at this point. The library never fails to make book portals appear on her desk, usually when a book pops up, it means she has a role to play in that world, it could be a minor role, or even a major role. Upon opening these books she is transported to that world.
During these centuries, she has also attempted to look for Viridia, yet she has had no luck in even beginning to get a trail on where she may be.
One day, a new book materializes. It's a pink book with what looks to be a Daisy symbol, there is a strange vortex in the middle, also having red glowing cats cradle strings hanging from the sigil. This book has high levels of magic, an extremely rare type for her to encounter.
"Interesting, "Daisy's World" eh? This is quite the rare opportunity.. Now then, I wonder what role I will play here, hehe."
She opens the book, warping to this new, exciting world.
Now, what awaits the tragic librarian in this new world? A new adventure? New friends and allies? Maybe a family...?
We shall see.
End.
