Virtus Listening Demo

A little while ago our car audio distributor in Germany, Schnabel Finest, participated in some events featuring Morel product. This one, Subtwo (www.subtwo.de), gave some people the opportunity to audition the Virtus 603 speakers. The get together was produced by Günter Josch, whom Mr. Schnabel has been working with for quite some time. The amplifier was courtesy of Audio Wave from England. The company's owner, Grant Hanan, is known for his handcrafted approach to production and design. He makes them one at a time! Our thanks to Herr Schnabel for sharing this with our community.

Simple Civic by SiS

Simplicity in Sound does it again with this Civic, taking it from stock to stellar. A good source unit combined with one of the best bang for the buck speaker systems in the Morel Virtus components and you have the recipe for a terrific sounding front stage.

The Pioneer 80PRS single din headunit sends the signal to a set of Virtus 602 two-way components.

The midbass was installed in the lower door stock location. The door was sound proofed with Stinger foam, STP CLD and Blackhole tile.

The speaker adapter was secured in place; then the speaker was wired up and installed. The reason why its upside down is because the terminals are at the bottom of the speaker frame and by mounting it upside down, it required no cutting of the door metal. SiS applied some CLD on the inside of the door card as well to help with resonance.

The tweeter went into the stock location. SiS has done the tweeter in a newer model Civic in a couple of ways, ranging from flush mounted to the top of the grille to having a tweeter hidden underneath the factory grille. It was a trade off between cosmetics, and funneling the sound through the tiny tweeter grille which to the installers had a slightly adverse effect on tonality.

So for this car, SiS did something in between, cutting a hole just a tiny bit smaller than the tweeter dome grille into the mesh, and then they secured the tweeter from the bottom of the grille so the full diaphram is exposed. The guys covered the entire thing with grille cloth so it wouldn't look like a grille within a grille.

To see the amp and DSP, you have to duck your head low and look on the underside of the rear deck. Both are bolted to the underside of the rear deck. The amp sends 150 watts to each mid and tweeter. All wiring is neatly routed and organized throughout.

Factory vs. Aftermarket - Audi Q7

Virtus 602 Frontstage

We had a sneak peek of the trunk some time ago but now vehicle owner Kevin Starr has finished adding the Virtus speakers in his Corolla. After sound damping he placed the drivers in the factory door locations while the tweeters were integrated into the A-pillars. See details of the full system below. "SQ-Lite" Subaru WRX w/ Virtus Speakers by SiS

By SQ-lite, Simplicity in Sound means a system that is run actively but without the benefit and added cost of a stand alone processor or a max tuning head unit like a P99.

The front stage consists of a set of Morel Virtus 602 two-way components.

From past experience working with this car, the guys at SiS decided the tweeters should be molded into the A-pillars facing off-axis, wrapped in black vinyl to match the dash.

Essentially these are built the same way as with many of our custom pillars. Mold cloth was pulled after the tweeter rings were aimed and secured.

Once it cured, Duraglas/resin mix was poured inside to make them essentially solid pods, and then the whole thing got filler applied and sanded smooth.

And then they were wrapped in vinyl and were ready to go. We also painted the Morel tweeter mounting cups and mesh grille black to better match the finish.

The Morel midbasses were installed in the lower door stock locations. First, new speaker wires were run into the door.

Then the door was sound proofed with STP foam and gold damper.

They fabricated these mounting baffles based on the OEM speaker mounting, and coated them with truck bedliner to protect against the elements.

These baffles were then installed in the door via OEM hardware.

Then the Morel midbass was installed and the same process was repeated on the passenger side.

SiS' Joey Knapp fabricated a custom metal bracket that bolts to OEM mounting points to secure a 0 gauge fuse holder.

The signal source, as well as all signal processing, is by the Pioneer 80PRS.

Like he's done before, Joey built a custom USB mount that replaces the OEM piece in the center armrest storage bin, so the customer can plug in his digital media.
