Gabriel’d taken to checking the Lake a few times during his daily search just in case Willow was there with news. Granted, he was equally afraid to see her and not see her. The last thing Gabriel wanted to hear was that his brother was hurt and locked up at the GRF, but the not knowing was killing him. His stomach was permanently knotted but he did try to rest every few hours, trying to take care to not run himself into the ground and lose the magick he’d just gotten back.
It wasn’t easy.
His hopes rose when he caught a glimpse of a figure between the trees and hurried his pace, but where he’d expected a flash of gold, it was red when he skidded out of the forest. Ah. Fuck. Worse, it was a red that belonged to a face he didn’t recognize. Shit. Shit. Shit. How many redheads did the forest house?
“Sorry. Hi.”
Gabe thought about playing it off as a ‘just passing through thing’ but maybe there was a chance the stranger had seen or heard something about Micah. So he took the chance to stoop by the water and refill his water bottle wishing that somehow all of his unplanned for encounters lately had given him some kind of small talk skills.
“You hangin’ in there?” That was a fair thing to ask, right? Since chances were by now they had the virus too and if not, well, conversation opener. A+ Gabe. You were social today.
