So when I started this blog I was hoping to update once a week or more; depending on if I had internet at home or not. Turns out my host family didn’t let me use it (which was fine. I realized I didn’t need internet as much as I thought) and I hated the mini laptop (move it even slightly and the keyboard would shit out) I brought with me so I only used that for reading books I bought. It didn’t charge sometimes, the camera was bad, and it was too heavy. To any Germans who might read this and might get offended that I said something wrong or something; I’m sorry! This is from my POV as a visitor in your country. And if my prof reads this I want you to know that I’m giving my impression of the people on the trip. I don’t think they’re too rude. I’ll be referring to my peers are their name’s first letter and age. More details will be added when I get a calendar of the things we did.
So my class gets to the airport and we wait for the others before going to check in, give our luggage, get some last minute food and drinks and so forth. A lot of us knew each other from the German classes we were in together and maybe 5 students weren’t from the Jr. College most of us went to. Mostly we talk, wait for the plane, and take a few pics together. (a/n: I hate flying and I was scared the entire ride that we were going to die). The seats came with a pillow, blanket, tooth brush and an eye mask for when you sleep. Which I got none of. When we flew it was with the sun so it was always super sunny out and no one wanted to look outside because of how bright it was. We landed in Berlin at the Tegal airport at 7am and we were greeted by heat. They had heaters on (I FELT THEM. THEY WERE HOT), it was a hot day and we were kind of crowded. Not a good combination of things to happen but ok . I couldn’t use my cards to get money cause I didn’t know my PINs for them. All of us were tired and wanted to sleep but we had to drop off our things at the hostel, and go about our activities planned for that day. We visited memorials, and had a boat trip which a lot of us fell asleep on. I snore turns out. Before that it was lunch in which I learned that drinks don’t come with ice unless you ask for them specifically. We also went to get German phones (which a few of us didn’t do), went back to the hostel to put our things in our rooms and get some dinner in us. The fraus paid for it which was awesome. There was 4 people to a room so all of us had to take turns to shower and freshen up because we were out all day in the sun and hadn’t washed in two days. There wasn’t any air conditioning either which sucked.
The Second day (Sat) we were free to do whatever. sort of. We still went out, saw the school, saw some more sights, and talked to each other more. We were also taken to where we could get discounted food cause we were students but a few of us never went there. We were also shown around by a student. It was the champions league and the Fraus wanted us to go there to soak up the football related events so we did. Before that B23 invited us to go to the beach with her host sister who lives in Berlin. A few of us went, got back in time for the football event and a few of us said ‘fuck it’ cause football wasn’t our thing and we wanted to go to a bar. Turns out ‘bar’ in German is ‘kneipe’ and every German we asked didn’t know where one was it seemed. We asked like 4 IIRC. Finally we find one thanks to this pretty chick and her friends and it was super nice. I got dinner, we chilled for a while and went back to the hostel. People were cheering so loud because of the football tournament and people came back to the hostel drunk and were talking super load outside our window.I was knocked out at this point so I didn’t hear it.
Sunday we packed up so we could meet our host families and stay with them for the remainder of the trip. Our host parents were pretty cool; our h-mom made us a rhubarb tart, made bbq chicken and had us sing with her while she played piano. She loved to sing and was a good host. Our dad was just funny. We would hear “Ja-haaa” whenever him and mom would talk, he let me watch Megamind in German and turned to the game. Our mom was a teacher and would also make us learn sentence structure through games which was awesome. One thing I hated where the beds. The sheets felt weird and since my feet were dry they caught on the sheets so I had to wear socks to sleep a lot. I’ll get more into that later though. All around the set up was awesome and I loved it.
After realizing how shit I am at updating things I decided to finally update my trip to Berlin blog. It’s probably going to take a while to get in a month of stuff happening.
here there! So i am in Berlin and i have been for a while- I have like no internet until the 4th so no writing for my blogs or for AO3. I am having a great time here and and will write about as much as I can remember when I get back to the states. Only like 15 more days until I leave so there's that. Also about my side blog; I'll be updating that once a day when I get back and it's probably going to be like what I did every two or three days. Sorry to disappoint like that but having no internet is fuckin hard! Especially when I have people to talk to
This is my trip blog for when I go to Berlin on June 4th! Once a week (probably) I’ll be uploading pics, videos, reblogging some stuff from other people in my group and talking about what I’m doing there and my progress.
