Final testing for variation of patterns

By adding noise values to z values of first and second meshes as well, I made three meshes overlap according to time flow and the wave of z values makes more variation to the patterns. Initial conditions are based on the private code and visual outcome differs by the private code numbers. I also considered using more number of meshes but as the code will run for 8 hours during the exhibition, I stayed at three to not slow down the visual process.

Testing the fonts-

I tested out around 50 fonts and during the process I found out that changing numbers for private code changes the length of the text especially when the numbers are updated to random numbers to show processing which was not visually good looking. To solve this, I picked out mono spaced fonts which is fonts with same width. They still have slightly different sizes which makes the length change but much more better than other fonts. Esthetically I considered Roman style fonts for ancient esthetic and bitmap style fonts for digital but I wanted to balance between them so I chose thin and modern style font named Zector.ttf at the end which is the top picture.

Default setup decision for exhibition screen.

With = 300

Height = 200

Translated texts to 90 degrees using rotation. This layout is consideration of using vertical displayed TV screen hanged on the wall at the exhibition. Changed the background to white for the idea of physical prints out which white A4 paper will be used. Default color set to blue as I personally feel modern esthetic and comfortable with other white colored installations.

Orthographic camera experiment

To combine the meshes into a frame like rectangle fashion fabric, I found a function called orthographic camera which ignores three dimensional perspective. This function is perfect to fabricate the meshes into 2D plane. Though, orthographic camera is not affected by the camera position, so I have to increase the absolute width and height numbers, or scale the size which I need to figure out the best optimization to visually impressive while not slowing down the computer.

 Rather than turning meshes into noise meshes instantly, I want to show the process of fabricating to the audience to more efficiently deliver the idea of generating my own digital fabric pattern. Created old position, lerp position and lerp color to use it as medium value between old and new mesh.

experimenting 3D mesh with perlin noise, colors, point size, wireframes. Time increment is needed to use perlin noise application. Applying noise values to x or either y values kind of folds the mesh into vertical and horizontal shape which is interesting to make unique patterns when overlapped.

3D Mesh vs Flowfield

3D Mesh and Flowfield is representive generative drawing technique using perlin noise. In case of my project, 3D mesh can give more three dimensional images and strengthen the idea of fabricating 3D forms to 2D fabric sample. On the other hand, flowfield can be more beneficial in realization of detailed texture.
