The garden that stopped fighting back
there's a particular kind of tired that comes from growing plants that were never meant for your ground. watering on a schedule that never satisfies. pests that never quite go away. a border that looks fine but never quite thrives.
native plants end that fight before it starts. they already know your rainfall, your soil chemistry, your seasonal swing, because they evolved inside it. no translation needed.
some things i noticed once i made the switch:
watering needs dropped within a single season
pollinators arrived faster and stayed longer
roots went deeper without any coaxing from me
the whole bed asked less of me and gave more back
it's less a gardening technique and more a small act of listening. at vise organic we think about biodiversity the same way we think about soil health: not something you force into place, but something you make room for. a garden that isn't fighting its environment has more energy left over to actually grow.
if your garden feels like a constant negotiation, it might be worth asking what was already growing there before you arrived.
