The Visio ribbon is really ridiculous
The shape operations (union, join, etc.) are on the "Developer" tab that is hidden by default.
Related bug: online help has no entries for "join shapes," "union shapes," etc. Another related bug: there is no "shape" group on the home tab or separate shape tab. What else is Visio for, other than shapes?
I just disabled this anyway
In Visio, the auto connect arrows always--ALWAYS--appear below my mouse as I'm clicking to select something. And the default blue hairline connectors are wimpy and ugly. So it's a mis-feature, implemented poorly.
See the title--disabled and never looked back.
We don't like styles any more?
Visio hid the UI for styles (it's not in the ribbon) and removed the UI to manage styles completely. You can't even pick it when adding custom ribbon buttons.
Visio organization
Visio buries object manipulation commands under two menus in the ribbon.
