Born as Xunsu to the powerful Herrscher of Control, Shikarin, Xiao grew up alongside his siblings Xin, Xhang, and Lan Yan in their mother's territory. During the Great War, Morax freed them from their mother's control. Xiao was then adopted by Morax and Guizhong, who raised him alongside their daughter Ganyu.
As one of the five main protectors of the territory and a member of the High Council, Xiao helped defend against hostile demons and other threats. While many warriors succumbed to battle wounds or lost their minds, his siblings survived. He later married Bonanus and they adopted Dan Heng, while also having their own daughter named Nyx.
Though he may appear intimidating, Xiao has a gentle soul and shows curiosity about other cats. However, he often keeps his distance due to his violent past and the weight of his duties. Known as the Vigilant Yaksha, he continues to protect Liyue from the Wangshu Inn, supported by his friends and son Dan Heng.
Recently, Xiao has begun to open up more to others, especially after meeting back up with Venti and forming the famous 5nemo band. As Liyue transitions to new leadership and other ancient cats withdraw from active duty, he maintains his role as protector while making efforts to connect with the cats he guards.
