Dinah/Black Canary: Connie, cousin of Anne Bonacieux. Struggling to make it after being cut off by her parents for quitting law school, she takes a waitressing job at a local club owned by Rick Liu.

1. Connie has always done everything to try and please her hyper-critical, rich parents, including becoming a lawyer. It has succeeded in making them proud, but has also left Connie with serious anxiety and deep emptiness. She breaks up with her sort-of-girlfriend Monty when the idea of them spending the holidays together comes up. 

2. Connie and her assistant/paralegal Portia are heading back to the big city after a case, when heavy snowfall derails their trip, leaving the two stranded in a small town. They’re rescued by Henry, who drives them back to the inn where he works.

3. The inn is co-owned by Alex and Dorothy, who have looked after each other since college. Dorothy loves all things Christmas, especially since they remind her of her recently deceased grandmother. She doesn’t understand why Connie seems so uncomfortable. 

4. Connie slowly starts to see the benefit of leaning into the holidays – mistletoe leads to Portia giving Henry a kiss on the cheek, and Alex shares a touching story about how not being alone during the holidays helped her heal from a terrible breakup. However, Connie doesn’t open up to Dorothy about why the festivities hurt so much until after a panic attack brought on by a group Christmas card. 

5. Dorothy begs Connie not to leave and spend Christmas all alone. Unable to believe that anyone could truly want her as she is, Connie speeds off and gets stuck from the snow again. Henry, Portia, and Alex come to her rescue; Alex informs Connie that Dorothy has never been able to please her parents, her grandmother being the only family member who ever showed her any love. This finally spurs Connie to embrace the Christmas spirit – to give and receive love, without judgment or fear.
