Sending a shout out to the Diamond Creek Apache Crown Dancers. They are one of my favorite groups at Inter-Tribal Ceremonial.
I enjoyed a beautiful weekend of balloons at Red Rock Balloon Rally in Gallup. They had to cancel mass ascension on Sunday due to canyon winds. Friday and Saturday were glorious and the weather couldn't have been better. Balloons and bluebird skies.
There is an abundance of street art in Gallup, but they take it to the next level by commissioning local artists to paint the downtown garbage bins.
I have spent a lot of time wandering Gallup over the last few years. The town is known for being rough around the edges, but there is ample small town charm, friendly folks, and LOTS to see/do in the area.

Dancers were paid a silver dollar. Attendees pulled into Lyons Memorial Park, circling their cars around bonfires, with the headlights illuminating the dancers. A large tent was erected next to the parking area for artisans and traders selling Native American jewelry, pottery, and handwoven rugs. Today, the nightly dances and art market are still integral to the Ceremonial.
Over the last century, this unique event has continued to evolve and expand, encompassing tribes from Arizona, California, the Midwest, Mexico, and beyond. Held annually at Red Rock Park, just east of Gallup, the 9-day event includes musical performances, rodeo, food, vendors, parades, Ceremonial Queen and Tiny Tot Pageants, a juried art show and contest, an artisan’s market, a 5k run/walk, two nights of Powwow, Navajo song & dance, a film festival, storytelling, and more.

Spent the weekend in Gallup at the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial. Still sifting through photos and video from the weekend. I went to both parades, both night dances, and the rodeo finals. 😁
Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial is coming up August 2 - 11. The PowWow is the second weekend. There's open rodeo running throughout, with the finals and bison riding on the last Sunday. The art exhibit is extraordinary. There's also wine tasting, 5k/10k race, vendors, parades on Thursday night and the second Saturday, etc. In terms of photo opportunities, last year at Inter-Tribal was the first time I ran out of batteries on all cameras due to excessive clicking.
