Finally, after all these years, I was able to strike the French Alps off my list of places to visit in France. I needed a restorative, heart and head-mending break. A calming, meditative escape, far from the cacophony of city life. The older I get, the more I crave silence and nature. So I bought a pair of hiking boots, charged up my camera battery and booked a solo trekking holiday in the mountains of Chamonix. I grew up in wide open spaces, where the horizon never ends. So it can feel a bit intimidating and daunting for a girl like me to be on the valley floor, flanked by towering peaks on either side. If there’s one thing I came away with from my trip, it’s that the mountains will humble you. Put you in your place. As much as it will inspire fear, it will also inspire awe.
