When visitors come on tour, they have the opportunity to explore the various buildings that span across campus. One of my favorites is the Chemistry Research Building, which opened in May 2008. The lab spaces throughout the building's five stories house all the different fields of chemistry, from material to physical to analytical. Whenever I walk into the Chemistry Building, I like to take a moment to look around at the walls showcasing the award-winning faculty and their impressive research. Take Dr. Holton, for example, who is known for the chemical synthesis of Taxol, a chemotherapy drug that has prolonged many lives and has even assisted in full cancer remission. What I love even more about this building is the countless list of opportunities that it offers. Here at FSU, undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to get involved in the research that faculty members and graduate students are conducting. In many of these chemistry lab spaces, undergraduates are mentored by faculty members as they learn the intricacies of research as well as much of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into a discovery. The next time you're in vicinity of the Chemistry Research Building, stop and check it out. Each time you walk the halls, I guarantee you will find more information about the amazing feats our chemistry department has accomplished.
Wherever you are on FSU's campus, whether it be sitting outdoors on the beautiful Landis Green or studying hard inside Strozier Library, you have access as a student to FSUSecure, FSU's high speed wireless network. In my experience, I've found that Wifi is fastest on Landis- maybe it's because it's an open area or located right next to the IT department at the Shores Building. Nevertheless, it's the perfect spot to relax, study with friends, and watch cute puppies run around while enjoying the beautiful weather we have here in Tallahassee.
