10 Foods to try when in the Gambia
Gambia has a lot of wonderful things and food is on my list of things one of the best. The Fresh Fish, the fresh fruits, the vegetables, sauces and of course the peppa ... that peppa is so hot ive seen someone fall over and vomit for over half an hour, rolling on the ground holding his belly. I tried it once i was like” nope cant do it, my lips are gonna fall off” ...
But since this is a list of 10 foods let me start the countdown.
1. The freshly roasted mais the ladies sell on the side of the road. The smell and the taste so lovely. They have a little coal stove where they roast it on, so fresh off the fire.
2. Roasted peanuts
Same as with the roasted mais you can find it on the side of the road.
3. Baobab Juice with bits of coconut
This has to be my all time favorite. It tastes like a milkshake. And its thick. Almost like an almond, nutty taste and than the coconut bits gives it a sweet twist. I tasted it once and I had it almost everyday. I think the place that sells the best is Ceesay at Turntable. Yum Yum.
4. The Fresh Coco
While we are the subject of Coco. I am addicted to anything that has coconut in it. For my hair, my body, in food, incense, you name it, if it has coconut chance are I like it. So when I saw the fresh coco sellers on the side of the road I had to get them. And what I found the coolest was the way they chopped the coconut so it is easy for you to eat. It took me a moment to figure out how it was done, but the trick was they cute the shell of the coconut off already so only the meat sticks out. But the water is still contained. They leave a bit of the skin under so you can hold it. You than prick a straw through it, drink the water and when that is done, you eat away and the meat. How cool is that.
5. Kabba
This was a new one for me
6. Tapalapa Bread
8.. Grilled Fish from Chef Paul
9. Sweet potatoe hamburger from Chef Paul
10. Roasted goat on Tobaski
