Taking Back Sunday - Twenty
@takingbacksunday @adamdamnlazzara @thejohnnolan @shaunwcooper @markoconnelltbs @craftrecordings ⠀ Some songs can immediately transport you back to a specific place and time and “Cute Without the ‘E’ (Cut From the Team)” takes me back to Lawrence, Kansas in 2003 screaming the lyrics super loud with all of my bandmates and friends at the Bottleneck after we finished a set and were working on closing down the bar. There were so many fun bands from the East Coast that made it huge right at the same time and Taking Back Sunday was honestly probably the most iconic and lasting (and so far hasn’t suffered any of the terrible press of their peers either). If you were in a pop punk or rock band at the time, you probably listened to TBS, saw them live, and quoted at least one of their songs on your Myspace page somewhere below your glittery gifs and above your ASK ME 100 THINGS RAWWWR surveys. The thing is, over time I lost touch with that album a bit and a few years later when MakeDamnSure came out, it felt like I was falling back in love with a whole new band but one that felt really familiar. They’ve been great about finding a consistent but evolving sound over many years, many lineup changes, and many life events. For a band that was buzzy from the beginning to be able to put out a 20 year retrospective is huge and frankly something that none of their peers have been able to pull off just yet. I was super excited to get a copy of this to tell you about and I took a few days to play it on repeat to let myself get back into it. My guess is that my followers are split between the people who are too young/old to know them or people who are about to go down the same memory lane rabbit hole I just did. Good thing is that both camps would love this beautifully produced collection of a very talented band’s biggest tracks.
