Canon EOS 250D | 20mm | 1/100s | f/5.6 | ISO 100 Taken on 16/02/2021. Sizzano is a lovely small town, located about 80km northeast of Turin and around 20km northwest of Novara, surrounded by rice fields with a wide-angle view of the Alps. The nucleus of this broadly bypassed town is the 'Ricetto Medievale', an old fortification first attested in the 12th century as a means to protect the inhabitants from invaders or thieves as well as to preserve an important site such as a church; in the case of Sizzano, it's San Vittore around which the fortification was built. The ancient architecture here is visually appealing: the masonry is formed by streams of pebbles in a herringbone pattern, alternating with horizontal rows of bricks. The buildings typically have one room on the ground floor and another upstairs, accessible by wooden stairs or a ladder from outside. Thank goodness these houses haven't been demolished as that would mean losing an important part of Sizzano's history and heritage. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: Sizzano is reachable by bus from Novara with the company 'Baranzelli', Monday to Saturday. ______________________________________ #Sizzano #Ig_Novara #IgersNovara #VisitPiemonte #Piedmont #MegaPiemonte #BellezzedItalia #BorghidItalia #Borghi_Italiani #LiveFolkTakeOver #GF_Italy #Italy_Illife #InstaItaly #StayAndWander #Splendid_Shotz #OK_Streets #Don_In_Italy #Awesome_Shots #TravelItaly #GramsLayers #Ill_Grammers #Italy_PhotoLovers #Loves_Italy #TurismoNovara #TravelPhotography #TravelBlog #BBCTravel #CondeNastTraveller #HiddenGem #TravelMore (at Sizzano) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNVumjxlSFr/?igshid=ayj15er6ctte

Canon Powershot SX730 HS Taken on 19/10/2019. By now, you have probably realised that Piemonte in northwestern Italy is not only famous for scenic landscapes, fabulous food and wonderful wine, but also for many royal residences left by the Savoy dynasty. Perhaps the least-well known of the lot is the 'Castello Ducale di Agliè'. Surrounded by a pretty park – where I took this photo – with ancient trees and vast glasshouses, the Castle of Agliè should be firmly placed on anyone's itinerary with a keen interest in Italian history, beauty, architecture — and royalty. The original nucleus of the castle dates to around the 12th century before undergoing several transformations, the greatest of which being overseen by the Savoy family when Carlo Emanuele III bought the property in 1763. The castle is certainly striking from the exterior along with the green gardens that have been alligned strictly and symmetrically. But it's inside the castle – which boasts over 300 rooms and apartments – where the vistor is left bedazzled by what's there to see: a legacy of furniture and precious, electic collections ranging from paintings to archaeological finds. What struck me most was the wall-to-ceiling fresco-covered ballroom with a powerfully placed chandelier hanging from the top, which I felt highlighted the elegance and splendour of the castle. You can find small snapshots of these fascinating frescoes online, but nothing compares to being inside and seeing them for yourself. The town Agliè is about 40km north of Turin, but it's actually only possible to get there by bus ('GTT') either from Rivarolo or Ivrea. I'd suggest first visiting Ivrea – known as the 'Industrial City of the Twentieth Century' – in the morning and then Agliè in the afternoon. ________________________________________ #agliè #ig_torino #piedmont #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #ig_italia #yallersitalia #volgoitalia #ig_piemonte #visitpiemonte #yallerspiemonte #volgopiemonte #italycomestoyou #andràtuttobene #travelblog #natgeotravel #lonelyplanet #travelexpert #beautifulplaces #italygram #reflection #instaday #instagood #italy_illife #visititaly #discoveritaly #charmingitaly #cntraveler #travelawesome (at Agliè) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9__eA2IHlE/?igshid=c9vvhhydywgq
