Windy Evening
Our Club flys on Tuesday night. Tonight we had winds gusting from the north at around 20mph with higher gusts in the 30mph range. The guys that showed up, all flew at least one flight. I brought my Night VisionAire with ASX3 Technology. Didn't help much. Flying into the wind I needed full throttle. The plane really was pushing it. Flying with the wind, the plane felt like it was going Mach 10. As I attempted my landing, I had to approach from the South, which is a much more difficult approach, due to the trees at the beginning of the runway. I have made southern landings hundreds of times, so that is not what I was nervous about. It was the unpredictable wind and how it was throwing my plane around. At any given moment my plane would lose or gain 30ft of altitude. It took me two attempts to get this bird on the ground safely. Needless to say, throttle control was a big must. I put my plane back in my jeep and called it a day. Watching other members attempt to fly was entertaining. Believe it or not, we had no crashes. Most pilots took their one flight, and like me called it quits. I have to say that we do have some nice talent in our club. It was not an easy day to fly.
