Principle 1: Research
What is the key to a reliable and creative process?
Research!
Dictionary Definition re⋅search –noun 1. diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, applications, etc.: recent research in medicine. 2. a particular instance or piece of research. –verb (used without object) 3. to make researches; investigate carefully. –verb (used with object) 4. to make an extensive investigation into: to research a matter thoroughly. Synonyms: 1. scrutiny, study, inquire, examine, scrutinize.
There is 2 kinds of research: Primary and secondary.
Primary research is when you have to start from scratch, you have no prior knowledge and no available data,
Secondary: You have the necessary data available to conduct research.
Research is important as it helps you gain a deeper understanding of the subject and enhances the outcome of your project as you have explored every possibility, collected and studied every subject and topic. It all will add a deeper meaning to your outcome.
So, how do we as visual communicator’s research?
We draw, collect, read and surround ourselves ‘stuff’ that inspires us. We are also involved in a constant process of inquiry. All this research leads to inspiration.
