A situation: there's a visual novel with romance plot. It takes place in modern Japan. It has 4 romanceable characters: 3 Japanese and one European, who emigrated to Japan as a kid with family.
Further notes: it depicts Japan in a disgustingly uncared way, author just uses it as an "exotic" background. Moreover, Japanese characters look more like Korean idols. In addition, this European is the single one who looks attractive and acts nice (this is an opinion I heard from a lot of people who tried this VN).
