In May of 2016, I saw a lack of appropriate representation for senior showcases for Art + Design Education majors (meaning, poorly lit and no labels in the hallway rather than a proper gallery). Putting in endless hours to develop as teachers of visual culture as well as in our personal craft results in us being one of the top schools in our country for our program, and until now, we lacked the appropriate venue to share that. After reaching out to my dean and director, we worked through this for the next year and found a solution. I am so thrilled to have been introduced to and able to work with Jerry and Annette Johns, who generously donated a gallery to the school, and to us. Tonight I was honored to speak at the dedication, and my heart must have grown two sizes through it all. I am so grateful. #VisualArtsEdMatters #MakeArtMakeChange (at Jack Arends Hall)
