Vitiligo affects only 1% of the population. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that creates a loss of pigment which causes white spots or patches to appear on the skin. Most people get white patches all over their body and they tend to affect both the right and left sides in a symmetrical pattern, like a mirroring image. Because vitiligo affects a person appearance it can be upsetting, but it isn’t medically dangerous. It is not contagious so you cannot catch it from someone. Experts do not know exactly what causes vitiligo.... there is no cure. Sometimes the patches disappear on their own.
