"I had to do it!" she lied, thinking it would help ease the pain of seeing him. Was it even pain? Guilt? No, it was fear. Yet, not fear in terms of believing he wished to do her harm. That would be far more merciful than what she could ever hope for... No, fear that she had ruined the closest thing she had ever had to a friendship... Perhaps something even a bit more?
She did not regret killing Kang. Not once. Not prior, not during--not even afterwards as she sat their in his study, alone. No---it was her betrayal that caused her to yell out into the silence. In her own darkness, she knew what she had to do.
It took weeks to track him down--the timelines branching, breaking, causing havoc. Numerous variants, some looking as he did or some not even the same species were met. It wasn't until she found her way into the TVA, locking eyes with him that she knew.
"You would have done the same thing. It's who we are," she argued, despite his silence. Despite her words betraying her final sentiments towards him. I'm not you.
The emotion crawled up her throat from the depths of her soul. She certainly wouldn't cry--no, not now. Not ever. Yet, the tears betrayed her intentions. "I had to--I had to push you away," voicing cracking at the last line.
