junhyung is a thrill seeker... to an extent. he’s reckless but he dislikes uncertainties; he loves the thrill but he hates fear. there’s one thing that gives him all of that, the adrenaline rush he desires every now and then, without worrying about possibly falling to his death (read: he hates rollercoasters for a reason) and while it can be dangerous, it’s nothing that would leave him with anything worse than a temporary bruise or sprain — skateboarding.
he has several skateboard decks mounted on his bedroom wall back at home but even that isn’t enough proof of how much he loves the activity. he’s pretty good at it too, having spent most of his time at the skate park near his high school, mastering the different skateboard tricks he’s seen online. his family never understood his love for skateboarding, especially since he used to come home with bruises and cuts all over his limbs. while he used to have some like-minded friends back in seoul, he doesn’t have many of those here in seongnam, with the exception of one person.
if not for her, he would’ve been lonely, seeking out skate parks near school alone, whizzing around campus all by himself and worse, with no one to race with. a bulk of the thrill he gets from skateboarding stems from his need to out-skate someone, be it in speed or skills, better still if they are on par with him or maybe even a little better, not that he’d ever admit it. despite his competitive tendencies, he actually prefers hanging around people that are better than him because it drives him to be better himself, which is exactly how he feels around her.
it’s no uncommon sight to see the two of them racing on campus, as irresponsible and dangerous as it might be but well, since when did junhyung ever care about that? the friction from his skateboard’s overworked wheels burn the ground they roll over as he zooms past students filing out of their afternoon classes, almost crashing into some of them when he whipped his head around to shout out at the girl a good distance behind him (only because he cheated and got a head start), “by the way,” he flashes her a mischievous grin, “loser’s got to buy dinner!”
