(viviskull) do you often get ideas when watching new media? do you end up wanting a canon character, an oc in that world, or just things involving current muses in the world / with those characters?

- Do you often get ideas when watching new media?

((Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It really all depends on the type of content I may be watching in that moment. Most times I watch/play media just to enjoy that world with those specific characters. If something strikes my fancy while I’m immersing myself, I’ll tend to keep drawing back on it after I’m done watching it or setting the controller down. 

Some ideas hit me right in that moment! When that happens, I may have to pause what I’m doing just so I can make sense of the word jumble in my head. Other times it’ll be a passing question of ‘hey, what if X character happened to be in this situation with Y and Z character’ but I won’t think on it very much. Just continue on, maybe come back to that thought later. 

Boiling it down, yes I do grab some new ideas for threads, character traits, or even new characters when I engross myself in new types of content. I think it’s a good idea to get some inspiration for new ideas and new plots by watching or playing through different types of online content. Gives those creative juices flowing!))

((Most times I wind up grabbing onto a canon character. There’s a lot of an established personality, a character’s backstory, and much more when you pick up a character like that. Sometimes you can bend certain scenarios you find them in, when it comes to canon, to your own interests and desires. Because let’s face it, sometimes canon can REALLY fail you! 

Which, when you think about this now and how I write Vivi, while she is a CANON character I feel like she’s become a bit of an OC. In certain ways. Mostly because Ben and the crew left the character’s backstories and personality very open ended! Open to all interpretations and encouraging fans to create what they want. I have 3 other OCs for other fandoms, which...I’m VERY surprised about since I never got into creating OCs for the majority of my online life. 

I guess you can say...I do a bit of both! Grabbing canon characters or making an OC for the world.))
