The day after a Boeing 747 cargo aircraft of Israeli airline El Al crashed into a flat in a suburb of Amsterdam on October 4, 1992. Four occupants of the plane and some 40 people on the ground lost their lives. Political controversy surrounded the cargo after survivors and first responders started complaining of health problems. Only six years later El Al publicly revealed that the freight included 190 litres of dimethyl methylphosphonate, a toxic chemical which is used in the production of Sarin nerve gas and other chemical weapons.
