August 12, 2025 - Representatives of workers at Alyzia, a ground services provider at Brussels Airport, have sent a letter to management requesting that they no longer accept Israeli airline El Al or other airlines serving Israel as customers. The main cause: the announced resumption of Brussels Airlines flights to Tel Aviv, scheduled for Wednesday, August 13. The unions insist that every worker be given the opportunity to choose whether or not they wish to participate in handling baggage and cargo on flights to Israel. "As a union, we will cover these employees. If there is any form of obligation, we will consider action", said Niels Benoot, representative of ACV Transcom, one of the unions.
The joint union front also calls on airlines to suspend their connections to Israel "until the genocide in Gaza and the West Bank is stopped". This union action echoes a growing wave of stances in the European airline industry regarding the war on Gaza. In France, for example, unions are calling for a blockade of arms shipments to Israel via Paris-CDG airport, siding with the Palestinians in Gaza. [link]
