♀;; -- For the first few moments after Violet’s outburst, Helen could only stare, dumbstruck at her daughter’s words. Thoughts raced a million miles an hour trying to process what it was she was saying. Violet knew. Somehow she’d found out. Helen was always so careful discussing anything of the sort with Bob, learning long ago how hard it was to have a private conversation with a daughter around that could turn invisible.
She hadn’t heard it from Helen, she was certain. But then who? How?
Well. Vi was smart. It wouldn’t take much research to find it.
The law against superheroes have children was well known with the supers, but also one that was the most cruel. Helen, even in her tough I-don’t-need-a-man days still always had a desire to have a family. Children. Being a mother was a different kind of hero she’d always wanted to be.
So when the law had come about that she wasn’t to have children - and especially not with another super, she’d been crushed. Devastated. And bullheaded enough to say fuck that and do it anyway. She and Bob had been grandfathered in to the “supers can’t marry” clause as they’d been married before supers were forced underground. But they weren’t supposed to have kids. Fortunately Rick had understood, though was very exasperated with the pair by the time Jack-Jack was born.
❝ Vi...listen....it’s. You’re not the only kid with powers. I promise you that. Even kids born from regular people can sometimes be born with powers. And, just because supers aren’t supposed to have kids it doesn’t mean they don’t. ❞
This was coming off more as an excuse than anything else, and Helen was already uncomfortable with her own explanation. She sighed heavily. No matter what she said Vi would be upset. And rightfully so. It was hard enough being ‘illegal’ but to know that you being born was in itself a crime? How hard that could be...
❝ Vi, your father and I couldn’t imagine not having a family. Our greatest joy, our greatest achievement is you three. Its even more important than superhero work. And I would do it all again to get such a wonderful family. ❞
