omg omg I FORGOT TO MENTION IN MY PREVIOUS TWO POSTS THAT I DID IN FACT HEAR ABOUT THE VMARS REBOOT HAPPENING AND I AM VERY CAUTIOUSLY VERY EXCITED. TELL ME ALL THE DETAILS VMARS FANDOM FAM!
I love when my mutuals are mutuals with one another and are online at the same time reblogging one another and all of a sudden there’s a clump on my dash of the same few posts over and over.
Because this has apparently been a Thing lately, I wanted to make an official statement about it.
As you all know, I don’t read fanfiction (tm) (except for on occasion when I do and I’ve always enjoyed what I’ve read I just don’t do it often or generally on purpose).
I don’t have a single thing against fanfiction, it’s just not my cuppa. I prefer long meta discussions and fanvids and gifsets and while I enjoy the occasional exchange of headcanons and ficlet drabble-ey bits of fic - it’s just not a thing I heavily participate in personally.
But I just want all of my fic-loving friends (especially you amazing vmars fic writers since this was about you) to know that I appreciate the hell out of you. I love that you do your thing - I love seeing you all encouraging one another to keep working on that difficult chapter and fangirling over each other’s works and quoting each other’s lines back to one another. I love the interplay of it all even though I’m not personally involved in it. I love that you’re keeping the fandom alive in the way you love best. I love your creativity and your dedication and your senses of humor. I love you guys.
I think the fandom is for all of us. And while I personally prefer to stick closer to the canon in my participation of the fandom, I don’t have a single ounce of judgment of resentment or negative feeling for those of you who enjoy delving into the possibilities of fic and the like. We all do what we do, and I think that’s awesome. Anyone judging you for how you do fandom is ridiculous.
I love all of you.
Dear Veronica Mars Holiday Gift Exchange Artisan of Wonder
ghostcat3000 had this wonderful idea that everyone participating in this year's fic/fan art exchange write these letters. Like a classy lady I thought, "I MUST DO THIS." And then promptly forgot all about it. Here it is, though!
Dear Veronica Mars Holiday Gift Exchange Artisan of Wonder and Bestower of Magnificence:
First of all, hello!
I want to take 100% of the pressure off this whole thing for you. One of the things I found so remarkable about the fic world was how there's this built in group of people wishing for you to succeed.
People in the Veronica Mars world supported me when I didn't know if what I was doing was worth continuing. All that to say, I am already on your side! You don't have to win me over because you're doing something with Veronica Mars :) And by definition that makes whatever you are working to create half-a-lightyear closer to awesome. Which is a long bit to awesome.
I feel like I'm pretty easy to please, but here are some things that aren't my bag. Or even my coin purse.
Things I am not into:
Major Character Death for the purpose of watching people agonize and be miserable (for an example of Major Character Death I think works read petpluto's stuff...mmm...mmm...good), high levels of violence in a way that feels punishing, Straight Canon Rehash (TM ghostcat), Veronica as THE WORST PERSON EVER WHO ALWAYS BREAKS WOOBIE LOGAN'S HEART, conversely Logan as perfect-millionaire-playboy who flawlessly understands all his issues and gets away with saying things like "ALL I WANT TO DO IS LOVE YOU AND ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS HURT ME" to Veronica, slut-shaming of Lilly Kane (and everyone), rape as a cheap plot point, no-consequences infidelity, heavy dialogue that reads more like an instruction manual than people conversing.
Things I am into:
Dialogue that zips, zings, and moves; flirtiness wrapped in romance with a side of snark, Logan and Veronica as best friends, Wallace just being the best, Veronica being wrong and dealing with it, Logan growing up and being good at it, insight into the characters, very clever movie references, and communication where as much is said in the between times as in the words, multi-faceted Lilly Kane, pre-series Logan x Veronica smooching, Keith and Veronica being partners, romancing (I think I mentioned that)....oh man this is getting long.
I purposefully kept what I asked for pretty vague because I want you to write or create something that you love. Something that while may have been inspired by a prompt I gave is actually a wonderful way to showcase all the awesomeness that is you and your creativity. Let this feel like you. Don't change your style or your creative personality to fit my whim.
Have fun with it -- fall in love with it -- be proud of it, and I can almost guarantee you that I will as well.
MERRY FIC-AND-FAN-ART-MAS!!
- ME!!!

Logan's needs are prioritized among the fanbase often - a lot of reasons. And that sometimes comes across as anti-everyone else.
Oh I absolutely agree that it can come across that way. I just don't think it actually IS that way. I interact with a lot of Veronica Mars fans here on tumblr, and I've never yet met one who ONLY likes Logan.
As I've said, I can understand the defensive that comes up on the different angles of this - I just think we need to find ways work past it and acknowledge one another with more respect. And I'm counting myself in that - hence using "we" and not "you guys" or "that specific subset" or whatever.

I've stopped followed discussions - it isn't worth the grief. Holding a minority position takes passion and patience, and the anti-everyone-except-Logan crew has killed that dead.
See, and I feel like this is an example of some that defensiveness right here.
I've not encountered a single person in this fandom who is anti-everyone-except-Logan - much less a whole crew of them.
Yes, there are a lot of Logan fans, even Logan stans, in this community. But these people almost always, for example, also love and adore and even stan for Veronica. Lots of them have secondary characters that they are willing to die on the hill of defending - Parker, Wallace, Weevil, Keith, Mac, Gia, Jackie, Cassidy, Dick, Casey, etc. There are even a few who don't have any negative feelings towards Piz believe it or not! Even some who don't hate Duncan!! Hell, there's even one or two will critically analyze someone like Lamb or Aaron in ways that aren't entirely negative at times!
There's so much nuance and just general love for the whole show from the fans that I see. And yes, there's a mega-ton of Logan love here. That's true. And I can understand why that can set some folks on the defensive who aren't as fond of him (or are fond but want to talk more critically about him), and/or who want to talk more about their faves. I do get that.
But I think sometimes that defensiveness can cloud things a bit. Just because there's an overwhelming amount of love for Logan doesn't mean we hate all other characters, nor that we aren't willing to discuss Logan's flaws.
I personally, as you know, love Weevil as much as I love Logan and V. I'd love to see more posts about him - more gifsets, more meta, more "I love this guy so much because" posts, etc. I also adore the crap out of Jackie, Mac, Cassidy, Keith, and others and wish there more posts going around about them to reblog.
I'm also totally willing to take the journey of exploring some of Logan's darker sides - as long as it's done with respect. Again, if it's insulting his character overall without being at all nuanced about his good qualities, I'm gonna kinda roll my eyes (just as I'd imagine anyone who likes Piz does at my anti-piz posts, hence my always tagging them anti-piz so they can be freely blocked). And if it's insulting to the people who like Logan, then that's gonna make me angry (I'd never insult people who like Piz btw. Just because I don't like him doesn't mean other people can't!!). But if it's done with respect, then hellsyea. Let's go there. I love flawed characters and I know that they're flawed and I've no problem digging into their flaws.
I can only speak for myself, really, but I have a feeling I'm not the only one. Yea gang??

Not you, personally, I just mean the general defensiveness. If you get so upset that you need to insult REAL people over FICTIONAL characters, it's time to step away, and I say that with respect to all. If you can't talk like adults, don't bother.
Oh I agree when it comes to actually insulting one another - that's just ridonk. Don't do that please.
What I was referring to my in my post is more of the general sort of ruffled feathers feelings of not being able to host and have discussions about a beloved character's flaws without getting piled on or not feeling like you can talk positively (or even neutrally) about a less favored character without people jumping on you. And on the other side of that - the feeling that we have to defend the characters we love and justify the dislike of characters we don't like every time it's brought up.
Like, all of those things happen a lot and I'm just thinking about ways in which we can tone some of that down and like/dislike what we like/dislike while still respecting those with differing opinions.
