Yay: made it to the second year of residency, third of the way ish to DACVP after my name, collect them letters. also helped a vet school pal trouble shoot some stuff and she told me abt a cat named bucket

:/ : new resident and i probs not gonna see eye to eye on a lot of things including AI and probably student protests, they are otherwise fine, but cannot hold a candle to my outgoing senior resident in terms of vibes. gonna miss her real bad

:( : been really enjoying just writing and studying and reading out cases but my PI has a glint in her eye that says i'm about to do a whole lotta labwork. and i'm not any less fearful than i was a month ago.

okay huge job win, i caught an important disease on a smear that no one else did. granted i caught it on a more directed second look but! take a win bitch! i caught it bc i was curious and i like knowing things and i'm apparently good at seeing one particular micro organism so hooray. more data for problem solving for the primary vet, more data for disease tracking at a state level, lil bit of bragging rights for me

part of my residency is writing these and this was my first one (should have listened to tracy and picked something easier than a weird leukemia) but hey i've got some writing on eclinpath and low key that has been a dream 7 years in the making. mixed feelings bc my senior edited a lot of it, idk that it's even 'my' writing anymore but it's something. the notable part of this case is the markers this dog had usually indicate a cancer where animals die within two weeks, chemo or not. this dog lived for months, and was largely well, going off his chart and convos with his onco team. shout out to my resident mate who caught these cells in very low numbers

Cute thing: the lab techs have a community playlist that they all contribute to for lab jams. They also have a cp_stat playlist (the test code for a clin path stat sample) when its a shit has hit the fan kinda day and they need high energy jams

got a little voluntold into writing up a case for a paper (weird tumor in a horse! from ye olde former employer horsepital!). thought i was just signing up to chat abt cyto and somehow i ended up with the whole project lol lmao. big time stressed abt writing a paper. but if i can get a first author paper done and maybe parlay my way into presenting at like AAEP i will be v happy.

also ive never interviewed ppl before today and i do think i hate it the most. not bc the people were bad they were actually lovely i just feel insanely stressed by proxy and also by the fact that there's just one open slot. also how in the hell did they offer it to me last year is a lingering thought
