“ I can give you time, Danny. ”
“ I’m sure you can, but the head honcho’s got plans. You can’t slump those, nobody can. ”
“ As big of a deal that you think this is, he can’t find you. Nobody can. ”
“ That’s what everyone said about Kyung. ”
“ Then just — ”
Danny looked at the other with confusion, unsure as to why he was suddenly changing topics and talking about a girl. Saying that Danny should just contact her, relax, and take his time. He plays along, quite obviously, but he’s completely unsure as to who they’re avoiding conversation with. Until of course, he’s forced to turn towards the bartender.
The two men sat at the bar, two glasses of scotch and soda water, in front of someone that wasn’t who they thought it would be. A young woman was approaching with the manager guiding her, showing her all of the areas of topic and other tricks that she should know.
All while Danny made sure that his backpack was completely sealed and closed, he acted as though he were somber. A hand on his back comforting him, sprite as his only vice, and a prayer to God that the manager wouldn’t show her the small safe under the register. It was here that he did his deals or meetings, after all, nobody could know of his whereabouts. He expected the same guy that always had this shift, and it just so happened that he had an important deal to sort out.
He was unsure of how he was going to get out of it, but he knew that they looked suspicious enough when the two men looked over at her with conspicuous curiosity and then turned immediately to change their subject. Danny heard the other retreat, saying his quick goodbye and that he’d contact him later to talk.
So, he just sat there. His baseball cap propped on the table and his sweatshirt a little too warm for this interior, he didn’t quite look as though he belonged here. But he knew what he had to do.
“ This your first shift? ” He looked up at her, direct eye contact and a look of simple curiosity.
