Listen, I love Johann and vanoé just as much as the next guy but the last few chapters were just an absolute vanidante feast and you can’t keep denying it

One thing I really like about the last chapter (66) is that...

it was Vanitas that go through Dante, and he got through by apparently being a prick.

But what he did was actually reminding Dante of their bond, in way, but reaffirming the relationship in the same safe, clear terms Dante had defined back when they were younger. It's business.

This allows both of them to lean on each other because it frees them of all the pesky implications of relationships and friendships and such like *gasps* vulnerabilities and trust.

Dante in this moment is on the brink of losing everything - and everything is the precarious safety of his community (that he built! Through hard work, blood and tears! They depend largely on him!) so he absolutely can't afford to be vulnerable.

He cannot freely lean on Domi's and Noè's help just because they walzed in and declared their support - as nice as they are, they haven't known each other for that long and. Well. "They're nice" is not enough when the stakes are as high as they are at this point - when you are a targeted minority that's currently being made a scapegoat.

But he's done business with Vanitas before - as a matter of fact, *he*'s the one who taught Vanitas how to do business. They've had each other's back for years at this point - purely for business purposes of course. Dante can work with that.
