It's trying times when the ill winds blow
Trying times when the rivers don't flow
Trying times when the heartbreak starts to show
Cora couldn’t really stomach the fakeness which would always steadily flow from people when it came to occasions like this. Personally, she would have opted for something really private for her brother, regardless whether it upset anyone or not. Then again, the memorial probably was classed as private with it being in the bayou and away from all those in the quarter.
She’d managed it so far in honour of Derek and to a certain extent, for Hayley. Though her patience is frail and wearing thin and looking around at the wolves who in her opinion just pretend to care, the young Hale watches Hayley disappear out of view before not being able to keep her mouth shut any longer.
“You’re all hypocrites.....”
One older male wolf turns around and like she’d anticipated, starts with the arrogant attitude.
“You were his kid sister so you get a free pass for now, but watch your mouth, pup.”
Trying times when you pack it all up
It’s almost like reeling a fish in on a line when they have taken the bait, yet it’s not what Cora was trying to do. She genuinely and very strongly meant what she said, pissing him off is just a bonus.
“Why?..I mean, you all stand around here pretending to share my grief...share Hayley’s and for what??...an alpha...a wolf you couldn’t give a rats ass about!..it’s pathetic really.”
The male wolf strides forwards and stops just short of infiltrating the young Hales personal space. His shoulders are broad and he towers over her but she doesn’t flinch and the only reaction she gives is long heavy blink.
“We all feel something when another wolf is taken down, whether they are part of our pack or not.”
Cora can feel her teeth clenching together and her cheekbones flex, puffing up slightly as she lets a small scoff leave her lips.
“Then why did none of you do anything to try and help??...he heard me howl for help...it was loud enough for most wolves to hear from quite a distance--you all did nothing!...just like you all did nothing when my family were burned alive!...none gave a shit back then, so do not claim you do now!”
--then she throws a punch-- a full on uppercut to the jaw and before anyone can do anything about it, a fight ensues.
Trying times when the going gets tough
There are plenty of other wolves around to break it up though and after a few attempts at diving back in for some more punches, Cora aggressively and reluctantly stands there for a moment with a wild and feral look on her face.
“Pity you all weren’t as quick to jump in and help when lives were at stake.”
She snarls, her top lip rising slightly as she does so and she walks off, heavy biker boots hitting the sludgy ground. Her own heartbeat bangs loudly through her head and it is only when she is out of sight from everyone, the young Hale starts to calm down a little bit.
She makes her way to a small clearing in the woods where she has been keeping Derek's car. There have been so many times lately where she just yearns to hit the gas, floor the pedal, turn her visual away and let the car roll. One time she nearly did it, but a split second as she was about to, the bracelet her brother bought her for Christmas, slipped down her wrist and she ended up skidding to a halt instead. It probably wasn’t a sign, but she saw it as one. Cora was the only living Hale now and she couldn’t let her family down more than she thought she had done already. So she holds her grief inside as it slowly devours her and nobody can see she isn’t coping very well because to the outside world, they think she is--or she believes that anyway.
Trying times when you lose somebody you love
She sits in his car a while, her car--she must get used to saying that now. There are a few things in the trunk that belong to her brother, his leather jacket, a few bits which mean nothing to anyone else. She doesn’t sit in the driver's seat unless she is taking it for a drive and she isn’t this time, so Cora is seated shotgun once the ignition has been started. The music gently comes through the speakers at the same time the engine purrs in the background. If she closes her eyes, it’s possible to believe that she is with him on the many car journeys they have taken together. So this is what she does for a while, completely immersing herself into a past memory and applying it the present, a sinking sensation already forming in her gut as she knows when her eyes open again, the stark reality of what she has lost, will peel away another part of her she can never replace.
