Get it? Because Wagnerians are known for being somewhere within the dramatic fach, but having a bigger/heavier voice! :D
Sorry.
listen up i’m gonna tell you a little story! i am almost positive that i am a contralto but i need validation so i’ve searched far and wide and asked different people with different authority on music and none of them came to the conclusion i am a contralto which is fair! but there is one person i spoke to last year that made me lose my fucking mind and now that i remembered it i need to vent (i vented to like two people on whatsapp already and i’m still flabberghasted)
so we had an interaction that went like this
me: hi would you mind listening to a recording of me singing and telling me what voice type you think i have
them: yea sure
note that i did not mention my gender since i Know that alters the listener’s perception!
me: okay here’s the recording
them: you’re a lyric baritone
me: oh wow! so if i were a girl that would make me a contralto right
them: if you are a girl i’d have to relisten
them: lyric mezzo
me: ???
them: yea you just don’t sound masculine enough to be a contralto
from the same person who had called me not a tenor but a baritone before after listening to the same recording!!!!! so i sounded masculine enough to be a man but not masculine enough to be a contralto that’s fair
anyways that was my vent i still believe i’m a contralto even tho literally no one who knows anything about music agrees with me but i know what’s in my heart and i know what’s in my larynx kay bye
common sense: maybe i should practice singing and pick a choir audition song from songs by contraltos
my music taste: baritone or mezzo it is bitch
when you can’t sing high enough to do sing the primadonna parts but you can sing low enough for the uomo primo parts!!
me, on a forum: hey guys can you listen to my voice and tell me what fach you think i belong to?
someone: you sound like a 14 year old boy, wait till your voice settles, but you sound like a tenor now
me: oh nice i think i’m finally hitting those high notes without strain
hertz meter: ma’am you have left the lower fifth octave
i read a vocal profile on nina simone and it said “more comfortable singing in 3rd than in 4th octave” and it felt so good because!!!!! me!!!! that’s me tooo!!!!!!
