***scroll down for English*** Ezen a workshopon felfedezzĂĽk rejtett, szemĂ©lyes kincsĂĽnket: eredeti hangunkat. A pre-language sound-empire between breath and scream. We all possess this treasure but as we learn to speak – it gradually falls into oblivion. But these sounds are never completely lost, they remain hidden somewhere in our bodies. How can we find and recover this voice inside us? How could we use it? How can we observe our everyday sounds – our breaths, screams, moans and hums – to invent a new, personal vocabulary to play and improvise with, to rediscover our very first language that we used before words and speech? The workshop is open not only for singers and musicians but for anyone who would like to rediscover his/her own story – or at least a slice of it. Workshop fee: 6000 HUF Registration via email: [email protected] The venue is to be announced soon! Planned schedule: 10:30-12:30 Workshop, Part 1 12:30-14:00 Lunch break 14:00-16:00 Workshop, Part 2 Isabelle Duthoit is one of the great masters of vocal improvisation. She was educated as a clarinetist, and recognised both as a singer and an instrumentalist in the contemporary music repertoire, often performing the works of Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Iannis Xenakis, Olivier Messiaen or Helmut Lachenman. In improvised music, she regularly works with artists like Franz Hautzinger, Phil Minton, Luc Ex or Jacques Di Donato. This time she is invited to perform at the Ăšjbuda Jazz Festival where she will share the stage with Albert Márkos and Bálint BolcsĂł on the 27th September: https://www.facebook.com/events/505078510302916/ The day after the workshop, 29th September, the trio will perform at the MODEM’s birthday event in Debrecen

The ticking of the clock on the wall was the only sound that could be heard inside the room as Jongin waited, anxiously for that class. He was already into the trainee’s schedule and it was hard, so hard that during the first three days when he entered the dorm again the only thing he wanted was to lie down in his bed and sleep until 5am the next morning. It was excruciating but it was so worth, he was sure he could never really learn anything outside those walls. Whenever a sunbae or a teacher pushed his limits instead of making a face, he just wanted them to do it even harder, to break his bones and make him work some more.
Possibly that was the reason why he wanted to have even more than the average vocal classes lessons. Jongin was aware his voice wasn’t the best one, he knew he would stutter whenever a certain note had to be reached (most of the reason why he turned to rap was because he realized whenever he didn’t think about the lyrics and focused on something else – like rhymes and the beat the stuttering was gone) but as much as he was aware of his own limitations, he knew singing was a big thing in the industry – after all, they were going to me mold into idols and even if he didn’t know he was going to be placed in a group or as a solo artist, he needed to be at least good enough to be kept around.
“So very few of you show interest in this class.”, the vocal teacher said and in a way he felt proud of himself for showing interest in that; he could even smile when looking at the male, but as soon as the man’s eyes fell on Jongin, he got a little nervous and just looked down briefly, fingers playing with each other inside the pockets of his training pants. “Perhaps they’re too confident they’re good.”
This time the group of four trainees just chuckled, soundly, and the man allowed himself to follow them. After a brief introduction, he handed them the song they’d be working that morning. He first played the song for them to listen and Jongin could feel his breathing getting heavier by the second, realizing the song was really hard to sing and the singer was just doing a flawless job.
“I expect you to be this brilliant.”, the man informed, causing everyone to just stare in desperation. Noticing that, the professor just laughed a little. “One day. We’re getting there. I’m confident you can be as good as this man here. If you work hard. Now let’s warm up our voices and get started. Kim Jongin, you first!”
Evidently nervous but at least 3% relieved they were not to cover that song in the first class, Jongin came forward, bowing respectfully in front of his teacher, allowing the man to train and teach him to be the best.
That was just one more step.Â
