Jo_Bar and Fyoosh87's adventure to Sterling, NY!
A small reflection of our time at the Sterling Renaissance Faire in Sterling NY!
Over the weekend Jo_Bar and I went on a 3 and a half hour car trip to
Sterling, New York to check out the festivities at the Sterling Renaissance Festival. There were quite a lot of attractions and places to shop. My favorite areas were the Glass Dragon (Pictured to the right), and a few of the jewelry shops. I fell in love with one of the custom necklace and earring sets that were made of opal and were designed so fantastically. I am not quite sure what the shop was called and it's hard for me to remember but their work was fantastic. Some of the shows were also quite amazing. One of the ones we checked out was the Vodca Family of dancers and the girl named Yana looked just like Jennifer Morrison from the ABC Show Once Upon a Time. They were quite funny and all of them very talented. They travel around the world on the Renaissance Faire circuit in America and do other shows in Europe and Asia. Go check out their Instagram, @vodcafamily for videos of what they do.
As we were walking around seeing the sites, it was interesting to see how many people dressed in costume, how many just put on a cape or flowered headband or crown and called it a "costume", and how many didn't even bother to dress up at all. While it is a place to go and have fun and see what a town would have been like (even though it is a real exaggeration) during the Renaissance, I feel like those who actually put in a lot of effort into their costumes were the talk of the festival for me. I saw like 4 Links and 1 Zelda from Legend of Zelda, one awesome looking demon girl who actually had the Eye of Agamoto from Doctor Strange around her neck so I feel like she was the comic version of a character from Marvel. And this awesome juggling fairy chick who stood in front of me in line for food. I didn't have the courage to tell her her costume was awesome. I also felt really bad for her because I overheard her telling the wait staff at the food stand that she had a booth today and that an hour-long wait was not what she had in mind when she hopped in line. So to that girl (doubt you will read this), I hope your booth went okay!
I had gotten a couple of shots of Jo_Bar as we were walking around just because I felt like it. Going on adventures with him is always a blast and for personal reasons, he doesn't want his face shown on the website. So for future reference, there will always either be back or side shots of him, just how it is. Though I don't mind hamming it up in front of the camera from time to time I will more often than not have just pictures of the events, adventures, works in progress without me in it. I'm the blogger here! :D
Jo_Bar and I stood in line for this turkey leg for about 30 minutes. Just after we got our number they ran out of legs. The saddest part about this leg not only being a whopping $10.75 (Damn you inflation!) it was dry and overcooked. It wasn't juicy as Jo_Bar had hoped. I took a very small bite and it reminded me of November of last year when I had the worst stomach bug. I had eaten a turkey sandwich from the turkey Jo_Bar had made for Thanksgiving and was fine until I got home and went to bed and at 2 in the morning until 3 days later couldn't keep anything down. I stayed in bed for 3 days and couldn't do anything. Worst holiday ever! The smell of that leg brought me back to those 3 horrible days and I nearly couldn't keep myself from puking. So I quietly switched places in line with Jo_bar as I was waiting for my food so I wouldn't be downwind from the smell, and felt instantly better. All of the wait staff for each stall were very nice and friendly. The one girl who worked the beer stall was amazing and got me a water so I wouldn't have to wait in the other line for regular drinks. Such a sweetheart.
This was an image shot of the crowd when I was eating my lunch from the deck of the wine and beer stall. The festival was pretty busy and pretty crowded on this particular Saturday. The theme of the weekend was Fantasy, Fairies & the Future Weekend, though we didn't see a ton of people dressed from the future (meaning sci-fi or steampunk-esque costumes). Though there were a ton of people dressed in fantasy costumes. I saw some pirates and quite a few men in armor which were really cool. The second time Jo_bar got a beer and we sat at a picnic table there was an elderly man who looked like he was ripped right out of a fantasy novel/film. His armor was worn and the chainmail very tarnished and his cloak was super battered. But since I suffer from quite a bit of social anxiety it was hard for me to go over to ask for a picture.
