Antwerpse Vogelenmarkt

every Sunday in Antwerp, there is a market called de Vogelenmarkt. Vogelenmarkt means “Birds market” and this exactly what this market sells. birds of all kinds, from chirping songbirds to fat chickens. many of the stands also sell rabbits and other small pets, which hop freely over the market stand.  the Vogelenmarkt itself is not very big, but it has a very unique feel to it, surrounded by the chirping goods, people petting rabbits, discussing if they should get one, Children cradling their newly acquired best friend and sellers proudly promoting their unique breeds. around the vogelenmarkt, which is relatively small, many streets are occupied with a larger market of general goods making for a very marketday admosphere. as you walk through the streets, past the impressive historic buildings that form Antwerp's heart and core, you will have plenty of goods to lay your eyes on. clothing, food, plants, jewelry and phone cases, you can find a lot of the things you were looking for here. every now and then you come across a street vendor, who will demonstrate his product tele-shopping style, except it is real time and they keep getting interrupted by people waving money at them and taking a product. Many shops and cafes around the market will be open, even if the rest of the city is closed, which grants you the opportunity to grab a nice Belgian beer or visit a comic store for your dose of tintin and smurfs, or one of the many other famous Belgian comics.
