[Grown Adults meme for @voices-ringing-out‘s Eli the Devi.]
Hiding from someone. ------------
Ancient Rome, somewhere in the very early Anno Domini ...
“‘Don’t go over there, Eli’, I said. ‘That’s stony ground, Eli’, I said. ‘I’m here to rescue the lions not the Christians, Eli’, I said.” Thera hissed a sigh, the breath coursing between her teeth. On the surface it sounded like she was muttering at the Devi, but she couldn’t get away from the fact that she should also be cursing at herself.
She didn’t need to get involved, didn’t need to bring herself to the notice of the local Praetor and the Centurions currently stalking through the streets; in fact, she could almost hear Ares would have to say already about ‘You rescued who -?’ But if she hadn’t intervened ... the Romans were very good at creative solutions to inflict on those they didn’t like, and however far at odds she and Eli might be, she wasn’t sure she could live with herself if she’d left him behind.
But damn if he was not going to get a lecture about it later!
“Alright ...” She peeked out from behind the curtain of the house they were hiding in, watching the plumed hats of the Centurions moving off down the street.
“As soon as they’re out of sight, we run for it. And you are paying for any tolls!”
