"If you like him, you've got to tell him!" Allison declares the moment she finds out about your crush. "Come on, Y/N, it's Stiles!"
You shake your head, refusing to commit to anything. "I can't Allison, what if he doesn't like me back?" you ask.
Allison shrugs. "Then you just move on. No harm, no foul. At least this way, you'll know how he feels about you."
After thinking about it for a moment, you shrug, even though you're not entirely happy about the idea. "I mean . . . I guess that makes sense?"
Allison laughs as she starts to gather her backpack and lunch. "Good, because he's coming over right now," she says with a wink as she joins the crown leaving the lunch room. You check the clock, noticing that lunch ends in just a few minutes.
"Hey, Y/N," Stiles says as he slides into the seat Allison just vacated. He's grinning his adorable little grin, the one that just positively makes you melt, and you can't help but smile back.
"What's up?" you ask.
"Are you going to the party tonight?" he asks, and your heart skips a beat. Maybe Allison had been on to something.
"I was thinking about it," you reply, picking at the paper carton of milk in front of you.
Stiles' eyes light up. "Come, Y/N!" he asks.
You hesitate for a moment. It’s now or never, you tell yourself. “Stiles?”
Stiles makes a noise, prompting you to continue.
“I - I like you,” you say, wasting no time. “I’ve liked you for a while now.”
Stiles looks at you, shocked. Then, his face falls. “Y/N, I - I don’t know what to say,” he says as a overall feeling of dread comes over you. “I don’t feel the same way about you.”
It feels like your heart has been shattered, but you manage to smile and put a brave face on. “That’s okay!” you say, managing to sound falsely happy as you slip on your backpack and grab your lunch. “I’ve got to get to class.”
Stiles doesn’t move. Just when you’re about to leave the cafeteria, you heard him call your name.
“Will I see you tonight?” Stiles asks. He hasn’t moved.
You pause for a moment before you shrug and leave.
“It was just terrible,” you tell Allison as the two of you walk down the trail. You haven’t been walking long, but you can already hear sounds of the party. “He said he didn’t like me that way and then asked if I was still coming.”
Allison sighs. “I’m sorry, Y/N,” she says. “But it’s all for the best. I’ve got someone I want you to meet tonight.”
You look at her in confusion as you guys reach the clearing where the party was already in full swing. The music was loud and people were dancing everywhere. Allison looks around for a minute before spotting someone and pulling you over.
Grinning wilding and breathing hard, you tug Isaac’s hand until you’re both out of the mass of people dancing. Laughing, the two of you flop down onto an open patch of grass and stare up at the stars.
“You’re cute,” Isaac says, and you roll onto your side to look at him.
“Are you drunk?” you ask Isaac. He shakes his head, but you can tell he’s a little tipsy.
“You are,” Isaac insists, rolling over so that he’s looking at you. He grins and leans in, and before you know it, he’s kissing you. You smile against his lips, welcoming the feel of his lips against yours.
You reluctantly break away from the kiss and look over to see Stiles standing there, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly.
“Hey Stiles,” you say. Your heart tugs.
“Can I talk to you?” Stiles asks, still not making eye contact. “Please?”
You look down at Isaac, who nods. “I’ll be here,” he says, sounding wholly content.
Getting up, you follow Stiles to the edge of the woods. He turns to look at you, then grimaces. “I lied,” he says, looking down.
“This morning, when I said I didn’t like you. Y/N, I’ve had to biggest crush of you, but when you told me that you liked me too, I didn’t know what to do. I told you I didn’t like you back, but I hated myself from the moment you got up and left. I figured I’d deal with it, but when I saw you kissing Isaac-” He breaks off. “I’m sorry, this isn’t fair to you.”
You stare at him blankly for a moment before you grin. “You’re a dummy, you know that?” you say.
Stiles finally smiles. “If I was willing to let you get away, then yeah, I’m the biggest idiot around.”
