a couple weeks ago we had solar panels installed on our roof, and 3 of our 4 bunnies were Not Thrilled about the thumping noises of the workers above. dusty does not have the brain cells for fear. he was sitting up by the door of his cage for two hours, desperately curious, and eventually i gave up and put him in his harness so he could see what was going on.
we went into the front yard to watch the guys work, and at first they were worried their noises would scare him. when i told them he was fine, they weren’t convinced, but then a metal truck door slammed. all three of the workers looked over and dusty hadnt even budged. like his ear went forward but that was it. he did not scare. he wasn’t even fazed.
he kept trying to follow them around as they worked, even trying to go behind the house to watch them connect the panels to the power box (or something.) i kept him mostly out of their way, but every time one of them climbed the ladder, he hopped up to it and sat up as high as he could to see where the guy went.
and as he followed them around, the singular neuron he has fired 80 times a second. he was so fascinated by these New People and he was very interested in what they were doing.
once they’d finished, they came over to pet him and chat for awhile and it was really nice. dusty liked the attention and even took a selfie with one of the technicians (so the technician could show his kids the bunny on a leash.)
as soon as i put dusty back in his condo with sweetie, he flopped and took a nap. it was very exciting and he was tuckered out.
moral of the story: meeting new friends is hard when you weigh about a pound and have only one brain cell.
