My bestie @islayandlochs got this comment on one of their fics, and she sent it to the group chat her, myself and @wolfsilverlight are in:

I'm calling this comment and the person who wrote it out because crap like this shouldn't be ignored. And since I am her editor, and have their permission, I'm gonna be the one to do it.

First and foremost, IT'S FANFICTION. This is a HOBBY for most of us! And it's bullshit like this that makes authors feel like they can't write and never do it again. We've lost countless amazing, talented writers because too many readers can't remember this. It's not that fucking deep. It's for fun. We do this shit for FREE.

Second, there is a big difference between constructive criticism and character assassination. In my opinion, the point of the comment section is to leave feedback. ON THE STORY. The STORY is supposed to get the feedback. This person destroyed that barrier the moment they started name calling and degrading Grace on a personal level.

Because had this person actually known Grace, none of this would have been said. It would have all been lies. That's why I call it character assassination. This person read A FUCKING ONE SHOT, not even the main story this one shot is based off of, and went on a tirade of personal insults about a life they know nothing about just because they didn't like what they read.

People in the Outlander fandom have told me that I am a great writer, and that this fandom is less without my work, but I wish I could be half the writer Grace is. They put WAY more thought into their stories and take canon into consideration with more respect that I ever did. I am honored to be her editor. More than that, I am honored to be their friend. The last 5 years have been brighter and more fun because she's part of it.

Whoever the fuck scratchyscribbles is can have all the fucking seats. On a cactus. Naked. And learn some fucking respect while they're at it.

ten year old wolfgirl (type of kid everybody has met) identifies unlabeled specimen as little known extinct species. that must have been so cool for her which makes me really happy
