rewatching raya and the last dragon fight scenes (disney FUCKING dropped the ball, they literally have one job whilst being a soulsucking multinational billion dollar corporation aND THEY DROPPED THE FUCKING BALL ON THE SOUTHEAST ASIAN DISNEY PRINCESS MOVIE - but i am hinged and i digress) and damn, wouldn’t it be so sick to get like. an avatar-esque (don’t kill me) fantasy based in southeast asian culture and mythology. written by and directed by and voice acted by southeast asians? with arcane/into the spiderverse-esque animation (though I would also take sick ass 2D animation), where the naga wouldn’t have transplanted elsa eyes. bro we could have martial arts AND singing. imagine

like, the dynamic between sage and reyna KILLS ME, the healer and the killer, and here it suggests they’re essentially going to be fighting over guiding neon— the angel and the devil so to speak, light and dark, idealism vs corruption. and my girl neon is just in the middle of it!! her untapped potential and power as a radiant vs. duty and goodness, especially as a former kingdom soldier. ugh ang mahal ko. we love complex characters and dynamics.

WARM UP

- The animation, like always, is incredibly beautiful. This especially shows in the ability animations. Phoenix’s fire towards the end is absolutely stunning

- Phoenix features heavily in all the episode animatics, as a sort of audience-lens, which works so well!! He’s our protagonist, our wisecracking, reckless, competitive hero, which. I love him, pls don’t let him become irrelevant in gameplay dkfhdjkfhjkdhf

- I love cinematics because they’re able to highlight aspects of characters that aren’t always reflected in game lines. WHICH BRINGS ME TO KAY/O, who, if I saw in real life i would not hesitate to throw hands with and then run for my life. but i love how just Exasperated with Phoenix he was?? and his little “well, that was embarrassing” after the bot completely destroyed him. like okay king you get some points

- CYPHER MY BELOVED MY LITTLE RAT MAN I’LL PLAY CHESS WITH YOU AND LOSE IMMEDIATELY. guys look a cinematic where he didn’t die!!

- raze x killjoy is canon now. they’re literally so fuckin cute together, tinkering and working on bots together. that’s gf activity, change my mind or buy my silence

- YORU AND JETT BETTING POOL WAS SO FUCKING FUNNY. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

- the explosion in the background while cypher calmly plays chess. im love him so much. his shifty little “victory requires sacrifices” advice to phoenix, like PLS DUDE YOU’RE SO SHADY AND I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

- i have So Many Thoughts about sage, which i will save for a separate post, because it’s What She Deserves

- WHERE IS REYNA? WHERE IS NEON? MY BELOVEDS (kdhjkhd this is a joke i completely understand that they can’t or just won’t animate in every single agent, and that’s completely fine!! just makes me more excited for future animatics)

ok it’s 1:30 am and i watched the wheel of time finale and,, Goddamn this show fucks SO HARD. i really love it, from the characters to the set design to the worldbuilding. the fact that there are so many people of color??? just casually existing in the background??? as people??? because that’s how the world works??? like my HEART. i feel like i’ve finally found a fantasy show that i can wholly enjoy and feel immersed in. and yeah yeah yeah, you’re an og book reader and it’s so inaccurate and you think it’s absolute trash, wHATEVER DUDE, who fuckin asked. imma just be over here enjoying feral wanderer moiraine and lan and nynaeve being in love and rand being the sad boy dragon reborn in peace and MIN!!!and also wondering who tf those scary ladies on warships were, and why they’re about to tsunami nuke a little girl on a beach. also the actors casted for lews and ishmael are fine as hell. they got the gravitas. ok im done
