Mammal in a Sunday Dress, by Georgina M. Cox, 2026
Hi, this is one of my Melanin Beam challenges!
I chose Scully from the X Files, because she's one of my favorite characters! This one might be slightly cheating, because I just changed her actress, but I think I did a good job here. A strong willed, fashionable, stubborn, skeptical woman, who could literally see an alien two feet from her face and go "there's a scientific explanation for this", and have a romance with the most Believe In Everything man ever? Yeah she could be Black. (My mother suggested the actress specifically, as one of her favorite Black actresses in the late 80s to late 90s)
Thanks for all you do!
Scully by Phylicia Rashad is an inspired casting choice. I never would have thought about it!! Your mom has big brain!!
attaching something to an email is so scary. what if i accidentally put hard-core porn in there. i don't think i have any downloaded but what if i do and i attached it to the email. what then.
Oat milk was discovered much more recently than you may have known. Like many now-familiar technologies, it was found by accident during the Apollo program when NASA learned what a zero-g environment does to goat milk.
tumblr is great and all but ya’ll are missing the woman in one of my cat fb groups that has birthed her own tier 1 meme

Running into this on my dash was like running into an old friend
Thats just what theater kids are like
What I’ve always loved about this bit is
a. this musical number comes completely out of nowhere, with no greater context than what this video captures; and
b. the language instructor clearly can’t hear the music. He’s not from Musical Theatre Land. From his perspective, a couple of twinkle-toed weirdos just randomly decided to physically abuse him for three solid minutes. This isn’t reading anything that’s not intended into the scene – it’s literally the central gag.
@thebibliosphere in case you need some ridiculous Singin’ in the Rain on your dash.
(P.S. I imagined you making the faces at the instructor and it was hilarious)
I can but aspire to the level of expressiveness Cosmo Brown has with his face.
I miss the time where movies would include a random tapdancing sequence
you are alive brosquitas........wowie zowie
That exactly sums up how I feel about it too, mate. Did you know researchers have catalogued 17 distinct facial expressions in horses and there is a watch powered by slime moulds? Wowie zowie indeed.

There should be an equivalent to asking "how's the wife and kids?" that's like "so how's that fictional man of yours doing?"

KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.
the oldest reblogs for this post that i can find are from january 2nd of 2013. this can has been getting kicked around tumblr for almost 13½ years now
And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!
In archeology there are artifacts, which are items made or modified by humans, but there are also manuports, which haven't been modified but are found far from any possible origin point and there's no explanation besides somebody carried it there. Manuports include things like stones, fossils, and seashells, and have been found in deposits as much as three million years old.
So yeah, apparently the oldest human activity for which we have evidence is Picking Up Cool Rocks.
I was on a team that found a walrus tusk on a late IR2 site in central Jordan. We all knew what it was instantly, but just kind of sat there, telling ourselves stories about how it got there. It was plain and unmodified, and probably one of the coolest things the team ever found.
Now, would you say you would've been more or less surprised if you had found a fae instead?
