for make a terrible comic day
that one scene from seasons of fear
if you want butterflies, you need to live with caterpillars.
i am not being metaphorical, i work in a garden center, stop buying plants 'to bring in the bees and butterflies' and then immediately poisoning every caterpillar that dares to consume a single leaf
you will not get butterflies if you kill all the things that turn into butterflies! what are you doing!
This! The people that I share my garden with hate this about me but every ounce of weed killer/insect repellant that gets used in or around my part of the garden needs to be really well justified or I will be making a scene about it.
Is it socially acceptable to use opaque watercolors, or is that considered gouache?
These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.
I love getting comments on really old fics. It's like a little tap on the shoulder that says, "hey the art you create is going to last forever even if you don't think it matters anymore"
Iâm fed up to the back teeth with being the Lady of Shallot. I want a go at being the knight.
On this day, 9 August 1956, 20,000 women in Pretoria, South Africa marched against pass laws: apartheid laws curtailing freedom of movement for Black and Indian people. The Federation of South African Women-organised demonstration delivered a petition against the laws with 100,000 signatures and the participants sang "WathintâAbafazi Wathintâimbokodo" meaning âNow you have touched the women, you have struck a rockâ. The protest kickstarted a wave of civil disobedience across the country over two years in which thousands of women were arrested, until leaders of the African National Congress panicked and called it off. August 9 is commemorated today in South Africa as Women's Day. Genius
I love it when pets do the thing where they've clearly figured out that certain steps result in an outcome, but they can't quite DO it themselves.
The cat understands that their food is in this container, and that their human gets it, and brings it to the dishes, and then there's food.
But having no thumbs has prevented them from their triumph.
I on the other hand love that he insists on using the bowl even though he could probably just rip/chew a hole in the bag.
Which indicates that he's probably not quite sure WHICH of the steps are crucial so he's earnestly repeating them all.
(kids do this too - it's called overimitation and there are experiments on it.)
An attempt was made.
Dahling you simply must read this book! Itâs all about this devious little caterpillar who simply gorges himself on all manner of divine things
having one lock of white hair is such a classic character design like hell yeah now THATS a character
@aspennntree
why do so many freaks go right to âthere should be exams or tests before you have kidsâ when the real solution is better social services, robust infant and child development education that is accessible both financially and schedule/distance accommodating, and resources throughout any stage of a childâs life. genuine question like did you think about any social development before going straight to eugenics
why? because racism, that's why. i bet a lot of them don't even consciously realize it's racism. it's been woven into the fabric of the US like so much other systemic racism
eugenics was traditionally a way that white people in power dealt with the "threat" of growing populations of minorities, especially Black and Indigenous people. a lot of that was unofficial even. eugenics really took off post Civil War in the US. it was talked about LOUDLY
the idea was brought to prominence by "intellectuals" during the Progressive movement. (see why you can't trust those fucking progressives?) it was supported by both the rockefeller foundation and the carnegie institute, among others.
j.h. kellog, the same dude who invented corn flakes to stop the human libido, provided funding for the race betterment foundation in michigan. it's laid out pretty fucking clearly that this was about race
Eugenicists such as Davenport, the psychologist Henry H. Goddard, Harry H. Laughlin, and the conservationist Madison Grant (all of whom were well-respected during their time) began to lobby for various solutions to the problem of the "unfit." Davenport favored immigration restriction and sterilization as primary methods; Goddard favored segregation; Grant favored all of the above and more, even entertaining the idea of extermination
"The American Association for the Study and Prevention of Infant Mortality was one of the first organizations to begin investigating infant mortality rates in terms of eugenics." And we have huge disparity gaps in infant and maternal mortality rates across different races inn the US. Hmmmmmm ... definitely not related right?
I ainât readinâ allat
What a well thought out, interesting response
So happy for them đ
now that im thinking about it, hamlet from horatioâs perspective is so funny. heâs like packing his stupid little suitcase from school, doing homework on the ship over. arrives and is told like âlol watch out for the ghost when you get there!â and heâs like haha ok. then there actually is a ghost and his friend starts going insane. murders his girlfriendâs dad. tries to frame (?) his uncle for murder. unclear exactly what is going on. the uncle might have actually done it but his source on this is a ghost. hopefully his play will figure it out? did he figure it out? oh shit he got captured by pirates. heâs back now though and heâs fine. wait no never mind heâs poisoned and so is his whole family + his dead girlfriendâs brother (girlfriend also died a while back). also his country got invaded while you were there! unclear if you will be able to leave. worst winter break ever
what is horatio even doing in the scenes where heâs not with hamlet. yawning and getting ready to go to bed when he hears a horrible scream. walks out of his room. hamlet is leaving his momâs room dragging the dead body of his girlfriendâs dad. horatio goes back into his room
